    Abstract : Over the last 50 years, cancer survival rates have steadily improved thanks to earlier detection and novel treatment regimens. For example, drugs that act on the immune system, so-called immunotherapy, have drastically increased the prospect of survival for patients suffering from some of the most aggressive cancer types including advanced malignant melanoma. 4. 4. Dendritic cells in cancer immunotherapy

    Author : Karin Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : vaccines; dendritic cells; αDC1; PGE2DC; natural killer cells; T cells;

    Abstract : Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in the initiation and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses and have increasingly been applied as vaccines for cancer patients. Ex vivo generation and antigen loading of monocyte-derived DCs allows a controlled maturation, with the aim of imprinting different DC functions that are essential for their subsequent induction of a T cell-mediated anti-tumor response. Author : Niklas Hagberg; Lars Rönnblom; Maija-Leena Eloranta; George Tsokos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic lupus erythematosus; plasmacytoid dendritic cells; natural killer cells; type I interferon; immune complex; SLAM receptors; autoantibodies; CD94 NKG2A; CD94 NKG2C; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by autoantibody production, which can eventually lead to immune complex (IC)-mediated organ damage. Due to the stimulation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC) by nucleic acid-containing ICs (DNA- or RNA-IC), patients with SLE have an ongoing interferon (IFN)-α production. READ MORE
