  1. 11. Molecular analysis of lake-sediment organic matter : long-term dynamics and environmental implications in boreal lakes

    Author : Sofia Ninnes; Richard Bindler; Xiao-Ru Wang; Christian Bigler; Hendrik Vogel; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediment; Holocene; organic matter; Pyrolysis-GC MS; mid-infrared spectroscopy; boreal;

    Abstract : Lake sediment organic matter is material composed of residues from plants, algae, animals, fungi and bacteria. Its molecular composition is dependent on the sources as well as secondary biotic and abiotic transformations, which combined generates a highly complex matrix. READ MORE

  2. 12. Structure and morphology control of organic semiconductors for functional optoelectronic applications

    Author : Jenny Enevold; Ludvig Edman; Thomas Wågberg; Christian Müller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic electronics; organic photonics; patterning; fullerene; polymerization; dimerization; spray-deposition; morphology; small molecule donor; high open-circuit voltage;

    Abstract : The functionality and application of organic semiconductors are largely dependent on their constituent structure and morphology. This thesis presents a number of functional and novel approaches for the control and tuning of structural and morphological features of a variety of organic semiconductor materials, and also demonstrates that these approaches can be utilized for improved device operation of field-effect transistors, organic solar cells and light-emitting electrochemical cells. 3. 13. Characterisation of natural dissolved organic matter with liquid chromatography and high resolution mass spectrometry

    Author : Claudia Patriarca; Jonas Bergquist; Lars Tranvik; Per J.R. Sjöberg; Jeffrey A. Hawkes; Norbert Hertkorn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic carbon cycle; dissolved organic matter; DOM; high resolution mass spectrometry; online liquid chromatography; organic matter characterization; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is one of the most heterogeneous and complex mixture on Earth. DOM plays a crucial role in biogeochemical processes on the global scale and it is essential to sustain and regulate the biological processes in aquatic ecosystems. READ MORE

  4. 14. Voltage Stabilizers: From Design to Synthesis, Processing and Electrical Characterization

    Author : Markus Jarvid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyethylene; Degradation; XLPE; Electrical treeing; Voltage stabilizer; Cable; Insulation;

    Abstract : Voltage stabilizers are additives capable of inhibiting electrical treeing; a degradation mechanism for insulation materials subjected to strong divergent electric fields. The intended use is in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) high voltage power cable insulation where minute defects in the manufacturing process can give rise to the conditions needed for the initiation of treeing, which in the worst case scenario leads to failure of the insulation system with blackouts and expensive repairs as a consequence.
