16. Prediction and Design of Self-Assembling Systems with Isotropic Potentials
Abstract : With technological advancement comes a growing interest in complex structures on the nano-scale. We as consumers desire new materials with interesting structural properties and smaller electronic components at a low price. Self-assembly is an easily scalable alternative to conventional manufacturing. READ MORE

17. From Multiple Scale Modeling to Multiscale-Modeling
Abstract : To power a sustainable future, interest in battery research and technology is at an all time high. In order to enable a transition to green tech many applications, such as the automotive industry, is in need of higher power densities, energy densities, longer life-times, and safer batteries. 18. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene
Abstract : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. READ MORE

19. Gyrokinetic simulations of turbulent transport in tokamak plasmas
Abstract : With the enormous growth of high performance computing (HPC) over the last few decades, plasma physicists have gained access to a valuable instrument for investigating turbulent plasma behaviour. In this thesis, these tools are utilised for the study of particle transport in fusion devices of the tokamak variety. READ MORE

20. Numerical Simulations of Plasmonic Nanostructures
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the study of metallic nanostructures that support plasmons. Special emphasis is devoted to two specific numerical methods that allow us to predict plasmon characteristics: the discrete dipole approximation (DDA) and the Green's tensor (GT) method. READ MORE
