1. Template-Based fabrication of Nanostructured Materials
Abstract : Materials prepared on the nanoscale often exhibit many different properties compared to the same materials in their bulk-state. Interest in nanostructured materials has increased because of these properties in fields such as microelectronics, catalysis, optics and sensors. READ MORE

2. Phases in the NaNbO₃-Nb₂O₅-WO₃ system : derivation of complex structures by twinning, fourling and anti-phase-boundary operations on the ReO₃-type structure
Abstract : The compounds of the title system are reviewed with emphasis on their crystal structures. The principles used in describing them include not only the well-known concept of crystallographic shear in ReOg and the concomitant notion of block structures but also new applications of the idea of chemical twinning of an ReO^-type structure on the unit cell level. 3. Tunable surfaces : using polyoxoniobates and -tantalates as molecular building blocks
Abstract : This thesis describes and explains the use of aqueous polyoxometalates (POMs), as molecular building blocks in the fabrication of tunable solid-state materials, such as thin films. Microwave irradiation in the synthesis of Nb10, Nb6 and Ta6 is a rapid and efficient alternative to conventional hydrothermal methods, while offering equal – if not greater yields – of product. 4. Alkoxide complexes of rhenium - precursors of nanomaterials
Abstract : The thesis presents the work constituted by two major parts: (1) – synthesis of new mono-, bi- and trimetallic complexes based on Re, Nb and Ta and their physical-chemical characterization, and (2) – preparation of nanostructural functional materials derived from these complexes. The precursors and materials were characterized by FTIR, NMR, MS, SEM–EDS, TEM and X-ray diffraction. READ MORE

5. Investigation of electrochemical properties and performance of stimulation/sensing electrodes for pacemaker applications
Abstract : People suffering from certain types of arrhythmia may benefit from the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. Pacemakers artificially stimulate the heart by applying short electrical pulses to the cardiac tissue to restore and maintain a steady heart rhythm. By adjusting the pulse delivery rate the heart is stimulated to beat at desired pace. READ MORE
