  1. 1. Neurodevelopmental Consequences of Exposure to Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) and Related Drugs : Experimental studies in mice

    Author : Gaëtan Philippot; Robert Fredriksson; Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; paracetamol acetaminophen ; developmental neurotoxicology; delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol THC ; ibuprofen; endocannabinoid system; neonatal mice; brain growth spurt; behavior; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Abstract : Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is the analgesic pharmaceutical most commonly used during pregnancy and early life. While therapeutic doses of paracetamol are considered harmless during these periods, recent findings in both humans and rodents suggest a link between developmental exposure to paracetamol and behavioral consequences later in life. 2. 2. Neonatal Exposure to Anaesthesia and Adjuvants : Acute Effects on Cerebral Apoptosis and Neuroproteins, and Late  Behavioural Aberrations in Mice

    Author : Emma Pontén; Anders Fredriksson; Torsten Gordh; Steen Henneberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anaesthesia; neonatal; apoptosis; bahaviour; clonidine; ketamine; propofol; theophyllamine; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : During a finite developmental phase – the brain growth spurt – the brain grows and matures at an accelerated rate. During this period the brain is more sensitive to harmful substances such as ethanol and environmental toxins than before or after. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immunological aspects of maternal-foetal interactions in mice

    Author : Marie Arvola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Neonatal mice; milk; placenta; fetal rejection; IgG; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Mammalian pregnancy is an immunological paradox. The foetus, which expresses both paternal and maternal cell-surface molecules, has to be protected from rejection by the maternal immune system. At the same time, the mother has to have an efficient immune defence and must provide her offspring with antibodies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation Induces Neurotoxicity in the Neonate : Acute or fractionated doses and interaction with xenobiotics in mice

    Author : Sonja Buratovic; Per Eriksson; Henrik Viberg; Bo Stenerlöw; Anders Fredriksson; Jean-René Jourdain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ionizing radiation; Neonatal; Neurotoxicity; Behaviour; Nicotine; Ketamine; Mouse; Cognition; Acute irradiation; Fractionated irradiation;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the developmental neurotoxic effects of exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation (IR), alone or together with xenobiotics, during a critical period of neonatal brain development in mice.During mammalian brain development there is a period called the brain growth spurt (BGS), which involves extensive growth and maturation of the brain. 5. 5. Developmental Neurotoxicity in Mice Neonatally Co-exposed to Environmental Agents : PCB, PBDE, Methyl Mercury and Ionized Radiation - Interactions and Effects

    Author : Celia Fischer; Per Eriksson; Anders Fredriksson; Richard Seegal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; PCB; PBDE; MeHg; ionized radiation; neonatal; development; neurotoxicity; behavior; cholinergic system; Biologi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the neurotoxic effects in mice neonatally co-exposed to different toxic environmental agents during a defined critical period of the brains's rapid growth and development. Environmental toxic agents are incorporated in our environment. READ MORE
