  1. 6. Renal cell carcinoma : factors of importance for follow-up and survival

    Author : Farhood Iranparvar Alamdari; Börje Ljungberg; Torgny Rasmuson; Sven Lundstam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; renal cell carcinoma; follow-up; VEGFR-1; PS; ESR; stage; prognosis; metastasis; surveillance; TNM classification; adrenalectomy; angiogenesis; VEGF; Urology and andrology; Urologi och andrologi;

    Abstract : Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is most lethal of the urological cancers, with more than 40% dying of the disease. About 30% of the patients have metastases at initial diagnosis and up to 40% undergoing nephrectomy for localized RCC develop metastasis. READ MORE

  2. 7. CT Guided Ablation of T1 Renal Tumors

    Author : Vanessa Acosta Ruiz; Anders Magnusson; Mikael Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Renal tumor; Ablation; Radiofrequency ablation; Microwave ablation; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : The widespread use of medical imaging contributes to the increased detection of incidentally detected small renal tumors, a majority which are often indolent masses found in elderly patients with preexisting chronic kidney disease. In Sweden, partial nephrectomy with minimal invasive surgical approach is the current standard for removing these tumors, although another option is percutaneous image-guided tumor ablation that allows treatment of elderly patients with comorbidities for who surgery is a risk. 3. 8. Aspects of Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 in Mild to Moderate Renal Dysfunction

    Author : Per-Anton Westerberg; Torbjörn Linde; Östen Ljunggren; Björn Wikström; Marcus Ketteler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FGF23; phosphate; mineral metabolism; elderly; mortality; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Disturbances in mineral metabolism contribute to vascular calcification and mortality risk in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Serum levels of fibroblast growth factor (FGF)23, a bone derived, phosphaturic peptide, are associated with cardiovascular mortality in CKD. READ MORE

  4. 9. DNA methylation as a prognostic marker in clear cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

    Author : Emma Andersson-Evelönn; Sofie Degerman; Magnus Hultdin; Göran Roos; Börje Ljungberg; Ralph Peeker; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clear cell renal cell carcinoma; DNA methylation; Prognosis; Clinical outcome; Epigenetic classifiers;

    Abstract : Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common type of renal cell carcinoma worldwide. Metastatic ccRCC is correlated to poor prognosis whereas non-metastatic disease has a 5-year survival rate up to 90%. READ MORE

  5. 10. A Study of Renal Function in Children with Cancer

    Author : Lars Hjorth; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Pediatri; nefrologi; Urologi; nephrology; Urology; children; sequelae; pediatric oncology; chemotherapy; renal toxicity; malignancy; hyperfiltration; iohexol clearance; glomerular filtration rate; kidney disease; Glomerular proteinuria; tubular proteinuria;

    Abstract : Evaluation of long-term side effects of treatment is important due to the growing number of childhood cancer survivors. How kidney function is affected over time needs to be clarified. READ MORE
