  1. 1. Nephrin : intracellular trafficking and podocyte maturation

    Author : Stefania Cotta Doné; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Nephrin; CNF; podocytes; glomerulus;

    Abstract : Congenital nephrotic syndrome of the Finnish type, CNF, is an autossomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the NPHS1 gene and, consequently, in its product nephrin, a 180 kDa transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily of adhesion molecules. In kidneys, nephrin is located exclusively to the podocyte slit diaphragm and it has a key role in organising amd maintaining the renal ultrafiltation barrier. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nephrin cellular trafficking and intracellular interactions

    Author : Xiao Li Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Nephrin; signal; missense mutations; trafficking.;

    Abstract : Nephrin is a 180-kDa transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin family of cell adhesion molecules. Nephrin has an extracellular part with eight Ig-like motifs, one fibronectin-like domain, a transmembrane region and a short cytoplasmic tail. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nephrin-mutations in congenital nephrotic syndrome of the Finnish type and cell lineage specific gene regulation

    Author : Olga Beltcheva; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Nephrin; NPHS 1; CNF; podocytes; promoter;

    Abstract : Kidneys, the main excretory organs in vertebrates, play central role in removing water soluble metabolic waste products from the organism. Many acquired and inherited renal diseases in man lead to kidney dysfunction and nephrotic syndrome - life-threatening condition affecting increasing number of people in the modem society. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ultrastructural studies of the blood-urine barrier in proteinuric states

    Author : Fredrik Dunér; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The kidneys filter enormous amounts of blood every day, removing excess fluid and waste products while retaining cells and large proteins in the circulation. The podocytes with their foot processes and slit diaphragms (SD) are important components of the renal filter and the barrier function. READ MORE

  5. 5. The expression of the structural proteins dendrin and Neph1 in the glomerular filtration barrier in proteinuria

    Author : Jenny Hulkko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: In the normal kidney, the glomerular filtration barrier successfully clears about one litre blood per minute. Damage to the filtration barrier might lead to protein leakage in the urine – proteinuria. The major ultra-structural finding in glomerular diseases with proteinuria is foot process effacement (FPE).
