  1. 1. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

    Author : Mariann Sondell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwann cell; SCG; rat; peripheral nerve regeneration; neuropilin-1; nerve repair; mouse; growth factor; flk-1; axonal outgrowth; DRG; VEGF; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its possible role as a neurotrophic factor. I have investigated the effect of VEGF on neurons in culture but also in vivo, following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve, and following nerve repair. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sutures bridging nerve defects

    Author : Peter Scherman; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Surgery; continuous longitudinal sutures; nerve repair; nerve regeneration; nerve defect; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : A new and simple method for the repair of nerve defects, in which sutures alone are used to guide regeneration between the nerve endings, was developed. Bilateral seven to 17 mm rat sciatic nerve defects were bridged by continuous longitudinal sutures with or without different modifications, by conventional autologous nerve grafts or direct repair under tension as controls. 3. 3. Cell activation and nerve regeneration following peripheral nerve injury

    Author : Annika Widerberg; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; nerve regeneration; Nerve injury; conditioning lesion; nerve graft; tourniquet compression; vibration; DRG; Schwann cell; p75; CPON; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology;

    Abstract : The effect of short time vibration exposure and tourniquet compression on nerve regeneration in rats was studied with special reference to cell activation. One of the hindlimbs was conditioned by either vibration exposure (5 hours / day - 5 consecutive days) or compression (150-300 mmHg for 30-120 minutes), which was followed by a recovery period of 0-7 days. 4. 4. Sensory neuronal protection & improving regeneration after peripheral nerve injury

    Author : Andrew McKay Hart; Mikael Wiberg; Angus McGrouther; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; cell death; TUNEL; optical disection; dorsal root ganglion; peripheral nerve; nerve conduit; Schwann cell; glial growth factor; leukaemia inhibitory factor; acetyl-L-carnitine; N-acetyl-cysteine; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Abstract : Peripheral nerve trauma is a common cause of considerable functional morbidity, and healthcare expenditure. Particularly in the ~15% of injuries unsuitable for primary repair, standard clinical management results in inadequate sensory restitution in the majority of cases, despite the rigorous application of complex microsurgical techniques. 5. 5. Nerve growth factor : its contribution to neuroimmunomodulation

    Author : Luisa Bracci-Laudiero; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NGF; CGRP; SP; lupus; NZB W; apoptosis; B-cells;

    Abstract : Nerve growth factor (NGF) is the best characterised member of the neurotrophin family, a protein group with common structures and functions. Similar to other proteins of neuronal origin NGF, in addition to its well described action on neurons, is involved in the regulation of the immune system. READ MORE
