  1. 1. Dynamics in Random Boolean Networks

    Author : Björn Samuelsson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gravitation; relativity; quantum mechanics; biomathematics biometrics; Bioinformatik; medicinsk informatik; biomatematik; Mathematical logic; set theory; combinatories; Matematisk logik; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; kombinatorik; mängdlära; classical mechanics; Bioinformatics; tissue simulations; transcription networks; random graphs; random maps; nested canalyzing; canalyzing; genetic regulation; Kauffman networks; random Boolean networks; statistical physics; thermodynamics; medical informatics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; termodynamik; statistisk fysik;

    Abstract : There are many examples of complex networks in science. It can be genetic regulation in living cells, computers on the Internet, or social and economic networks. In this context, Boolean networks provide simplistic models that are relatively easy to handle using computer simulations and mathematical methods. READ MORE

  2. 2. Gene Regulatory Networks: Dynamics and Stability

    Author : Carl Troein; Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; systems; control; Datalogi; numerisk analys; system; kontroll; Computer science; numerical analysis; Fysik; biomathematics biometrics; Bioinformatik; medicinsk informatik; biomatematik; Physics; medical informatics; transcriptional regulation; gene regulatory networks; Bioinformatics; signaling pathway profiling; stem cell regulation; metabolic pathway; fitness; nested canalyzing rules; Kauffman networks; random Boolean networks; Fysicumarkivet:2007:Troein;

    Abstract : Life as we know it is based on cells that use proteins and RNA to carry out metabolism, self-replication, and other essential tasks. The genes that code for these molecules are encoded in DNA, and through the processes of transcription and translation the cell expresses its genes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Orienting West Mexico: The Mesoamerican World System 200-1200 CE

    Author : Peter F. Jimenez Betts; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Mesoamerica; Archaeology; World-Systems theory; World-Systems analysis; Nested Networks; West Mexico; Central Mexico; Early Classic; Epiclassic; Early Postclassic;

    Abstract : As world-systems theory came to the fore in archaeology during the 1980s and 1990s, it became evident that the analysis of pre-capitalist core/periphery relations required modifications of this theory for its further use in the discipline. As a result, the comparative approach for world-systems analysis (Chase-Dunn and Hall 1997) discerned four interaction networks that defined pre-capitalist world-systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. The roads in-between : causeways and polyagentive networks at Ichmul and Yo'okop, Cochuah Region, Mexico

    Author : Johan Normark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; agency; architecture; becoming; Bergson; causeway; Cochuah; culture critique; Deleuze; difference; duration; event horizon; evolution; humanocentrism; Ichmul; ideology; in-between; index; materialtiy; Maya; Mexico; multiplicity; neo-materialism; network; polyagency; polyagent; posthumanism; practice; rhizome; road; sakbe; settlement archaeology; technoscience; temporality; Terminal Classic; virutality; Yo okop;

    Abstract : This dissertation has two aims: (1) To characterize and abandon the humanocentric archaeology that relies upon quasi-objects and to develop the polyagentive archaeology that relies upon actualizations of the virtual. (2) To exemplify the latter approach by studying how causeways (sakbeob) in the Maya area relate to temporality and materialtiy at, and around, the two neighbouring sites of Ichmul and Yo'okop in the Cochuah region of southeast Yucatan and west-central Quintana Roo in Mexico. 5. 5. Nurturing resilience in social-ecological systems : Lessons learned from bridging organizations

    Author : Lisen Schultz; Carl Folke; Ryan Plummer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : adaptive co-management; social-ecological resilience; local stewards; bridging organizations; learning; participation; Kristianstads Vattenrike; Biosphere Reserves; sustainable development; biodiversity conservation; ecosystem management; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Abstract : In an increasingly complex, rapidly changing world, the capacity to cope with, adapt to, and shape change is vital. This thesis investigates how natural resource management can be organized and practiced to nurture this capacity, referred to as resilience, in social-ecological systems. READ MORE
