  1. 21. Resolving developing neuronal lineages in the ventral midbrain

    Author : Nigel Kee; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The numerous cells and cell types of our bodies originate from a fertilised egg. Through the study of the developing embryo, we have come to understand much about how different cells in different tissues arise from this single cell, and how they are related to one another within an expansive family tree. 2. 22. The Foxf2 gene in development and disease

    Author : Azadeh Reyahi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Foxf2; Pericyte; brain development; stroke;

    Abstract : The Foxf2 gene in development and disease Azadeh Reyahi Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Gothenburg, Box 462, SE 405 30, Göteborg, Sweden Abstract In this thesis I present our recent data on the involvement and the mechanism of action of the forkhead transcription factor Foxf2 in development of the brain microvasculature, formation of the blood-brain barrier, control of the intestinal stem cell niche, and fusion of the secondary palate. The potential clinical signifi- cance of these findings is strengthened by a correlation between Foxf2 expres- sion and intestinal adenoma formation, and by association between genetic vari- ants in human FOXF2 and incident stroke. 3. 23. Experimental spinal cord injury : development of protection and repair strategies in rats

    Author : Matthias Erschbamer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Spinal cord injury typically results in neurological deficits that can not be reversed, often leaving patients bound to a wheelchair. Current treatment strategies are not very successful. Despite many promising experimental strategies, clinical translation has so far been very limited. READ MORE

  4. 24. Single-cell analysis of mammalian cardiogenesis elucidating an essential role of outflow tract progenitors

    Author : Chikai Zhou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The heart is the first organ to form and start to function during mammalian embryogenesis. This complex organ system is constructed by a diverse set of cell types, involving mesodermal precursors and heart progenitors, at the earliest embryonic stages. READ MORE

  5. 25. Targeting dysfunctional developmental signaling cascades as a tool for tailored therapy in embryonal tumors

    Author : Cecilia Dyberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma and medulloblastoma are embryonal malignant tumors of the central and peripheral nervous systems, respectively. The overall survival for both diagnoses is 60-75% despite intense multimodal therapy. This warrants the search for novel therapeutic approaches. READ MORE
