  1. 1. Ras-MAPK signaling in differentiating SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells

    Author : Anna-Karin Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Neuroblastoma; SH-SY5Y; differentiation; neurite; Ras; MAPK; PKC; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma is a malignant childhood cancer, originating from sympathetic neuroblasts of the peripheral nervous system. Neuroblastoma is a heterogenous group of tumours, while some are highly malignant others can spontaneosly mature into a more benign form or regress. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effects of ellagic acid in human neuroblastoma cells

    Author : Christina Fjæraa Alfredsson; Eewa Nånberg; Karin Persson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; polyphenols; ellagic acid; neuroblastoma; SH-SY5Y cells; differentiation; proliferation; apoptosis; cell adhesion; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : A diet rich in polyphenols has been proposed to have beneficial health effects and to reduce risk of disease. Ellagic acid, a polyphenol common in red berries and pomegranates, has potential anti-tumorigenic effects that make it interesting to further study in different cancer cell systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y and neural progenitor C17.2 cell lines as models for neurotoxicological studies

    Author : Jessica Lundqvist; Anna Forsby; Åsa Fex Svenningsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; SH-SY5Y; C17.2; in vitro neurotoxicity; cell culture conditions; biomarkers; in vitro developmental neurotoxicity; whole genome microarray; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : We are surrounded by chemicals, thus understanding how exposure to these chemicals affect us during our life is of great social importance. In order to predict human acute toxicity of chemicals, cosmetics or drugs, development of novel in vitro test strategies is required. READ MORE

  4. 4. The expression and function of protein kinase C isoforms in differentiating neuroblastoma cells

    Author : Sofia Fagerström; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; p130cas; PKC; fte-1; neuroblastoma; SH-SY5Y cells; growth cones; neuronal differentiation; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : The human neuroblastoma cell line SH-SY5Y can be induced to differentiate into a neuronal sympathetic phenotype after treatment with 16 nM 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol 13-acetate (TPA) in serum, or by a combination of the growth factors basic fibroblast growth factor and insulin-like growth factor-I (bFGF/IGF-I). SH-SY5Y cells stably transfected with TrkA, the nerve growth factor (NGF) receptor, differentiate in response to NGF. READ MORE

  5. 5. In vitro cellular models for neurotoxicity studies : neurons derived from P19 cells

    Author : Dina Popova; Jacobsson Stig O.P.; Anna Forsby; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurotoxicity; Neuronal cell culture; P19 cells; SH-SY5Y cells; βIII-tubulin; Methylmercury; Okadaic acid; Acrylamide; MDMA; Piperazine-derived designer drugs.;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed to a variety of chemicals including environmental pollutants, cosmetics, food preservatives and drugs. Some of these substances might be harmful to the human body. READ MORE
