  1. 1. Regeneration of Peripheral Nerves. The role of protein kinases, with emphasis on neurotrophic factor stimulation

    Author : Peter Wiklund; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NT-4; NT-3; NGF; MAPK; PKG; PKA; PKC; nodose ganglion; DRG; conditioning effect; neurotrophic factors; protein kinases; peripheral; nerve regeneration; BDNF; GDNF; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of protein kinases in peripheral nerve regeneration, with the use of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and nodose ganglia explants from adult mice. The effects of neurotrophic factor stimulation and protein kinase inhibition were studied for long (days) and short term (minutes) effects. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide : Expression and neurotrophic activity in the rat brain

    Author : Ylva Skoglösa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; in situ hybridisation; rat; TBI; BDNF; NGF; GDNF; PACAP; PRI; TUNEL; apoptosis; CNS; PNS; neuropeptides; neurotrophic factors; reactive oxygen species; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : Neurotrophic factors play an important role in regulating naturally occurring cell death during neurogenesis. In addition to classical neurotrophic factors, some neurotransmitters and neuropeptides have been shown to exhibit neurotrophic activities. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanisms of traumatic brain injury in the rat : Morphological consequences and neurotrophic responses

    Author : Anders Lewén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Cortical contusion injury; TBI; neurons; axons; dendrites; APP; MAP2; BMPR-II; ActR-I; trkB; c-fos; BDNF; PACAP; TUNEL; TGFs; serine threonine; bone morphogenetic protein; neuropeptides; reactive oxygen species; ROS; apoptosis; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurosurgery; neurokirurgi;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury is a major cause of death and disability in the Western world. especially in young people. Understanding the pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury is the basis for further development of better therapeutic strategies for such patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Role of Neuropeptides and Neurotrophic Factors in Seizure Modulation

    Author : Avtandil Nanobashvili; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; brain slice; entorhinal cortex; hippocampus; galanin; glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor; neuropeptide Y; epilepsy; kindling; Neurology; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; Neurologi;

    Abstract : The presented thesis explores role of glial cell line derived neurotrophic factor family receptor a2 (GFRa2), as well as neuropeptide Y (NPY) and galanin and their receptors in modulation of seizure activity. We demonstrate that mice lacking the GFRa2 gene (GFRa2-/-) exhibit suppressed seizure generalization in traditional and rapid kindling models. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neurotrophic and immune regulatory factors in neuroinflammation

    Author : Alexander W Gielen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neurotrophins; EAE; MS; TIM; Neuroprotection;

    Abstract : Inflammatory reactions in the nervous system act as a double-edged sword. On the one hand, neuroinflammation can have very devastating effects on the nervous system, leading to neurological dysfunction. READ MORE
