1. Modular Battery Systems for Electric Vehicles based on Multilevel Inverter Topologies - Opportunities and Challenges
Abstract : Modular battery systems based on multilevel inverter (MLI) topologies can possibly overcome some shortcomings of two-level inverters when used for vehicle propulsion. The results presented in this thesis aim to point out the advantages and disadvantages, as well as the technical challenges, of modular vehicle battery systems based on MLIs in comparison to a conventional, two-level IGBT inverter drivetrain. 2. Development of a new service-oriented modelling method for information systems analysis and design
Abstract : This thesis presents a new modelling method for information systems analysis and design, where the concept of service and the principles of service orientation are used for integrated modelling and reasoning about information systems architectures across organisational and technical systems boundaries. The concept of service enables cohesion of the intersubjective and objective modelling traditions by using a single type of diagram that facilitates detection of semantic inconsistency, incompleteness, ambiguity and discontinuity between the static and dynamic aspects of information systems specifications. 3. Optimization modeling of frequency reserves and inertia in the transition to a climate-neutral electricity system
Abstract : The ongoing transition towards electricity production systems that are dominated by wind and solar power challenge both the traditional strategy for meeting a varying electricity demand and the traditional way of controlling the AC frequency of the electricity grid. This work investigates how frequency reserves (FR) and inertia, as well as inter-hourly variation management interact in the transition to a climate-neutral electricity system. READ MORE

4. Inverter Design for SiC-based Electric Drive Systems with Optimal Redundant States Control of Space Vector Modulation
Abstract : The need for inverters with ever increasing power density and efficiency has recently become the driving factor for research in various fields. Increasing the operating voltage of the whole drive system and utilizing newly developed SiC power switches can contribute towards this goal. READ MORE

5. Modulation, efficiency and lifetime of two-level and multilevel converters for a hydropower application
Abstract : Along with the integration of the renewable energy in the electrical grid, the pumped-storage hydropower has gained more and more attention due to its fast response and energy storage ability. To have a higher overall efficiency and more flexibility of the system, variable speed is preferred in the operation of the pumped-storage hydropower applications. READ MORE
