  1. 1. Neutron Spectrometry Techniques for Fusion Plasmas : Instrumentation and Performance

    Author : Erik Andersson Sundén; Göran Ericsson; Sean Conroy; Erik Traneus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; plasma diagnostics; neutron spectrometry; neutron spectroscopy; MPRu; magnetic proton recoil spectrometer; fusion; ITER; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : Neutron are emitted from a deuterium plasma with energies around 2.5 MeV. The neutron spectrum is intimately related to the ion velocity distribution of the plasma. As a consequence, the analysis of neutron energy spectra can give information of the plasma rotation, the ion temperature, heating efficiency and fusion power. READ MORE

  2. 2. Neutron Emission Spectrometry for Fusion Reactor Diagnosis : Method Development and Data Analysis

    Author : Jacob Eriksson; Göran Ericsson; Carl Hellesen; Sean Conroy; Andreas Dinklage; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; plasma diagnostics; neutron spectrometry; TOFOR; MPRu; tokamak; JET; fast ions; fuel ion density; relativistic kinematics; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : It is possible to obtain information about various properties of the fuel ions deuterium (D) and tritium (T) in a fusion plasma by measuring the neutron emission from the plasma. Neutrons are produced in fusion reactions between the fuel ions, which means that the intensity and energy spectrum of the emitted neutrons are related to the densities and velocity distributions of these ions. 3. 3. Making TOFu : Fusion Plasma Neutron Emission Spectrometry with a Fully Digital Data Acquisition System

    Author : Mateusz Skiba; Göran Ericsson; Anders Hjalmarsson; Carl Hellesen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : TOFu (Time-Of-Flight upgrade) is a fully digital data acquisition system based on 1 GSPS, 12 bit digitisers for the TOFOR (Time-Of-Flight spectrometer Optimised for Rate) fusion neutron spectrometer at JET. The system has been assessed, developed and subsequently tested during experimental campaigns at JET. READ MORE

  4. 4. The evolution of TOFu : Developing and utilizing neutron time-of-flight spectrometry of deuterium and tritium fusion plasmas at JET

    Author : Benjamin Eriksson; Göran Ericsson; Anders Hjalmarsson; Sean Conroy; Jacob Eriksson; Luka Snoj; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; plasma diagnostics; neutron spectrometry; time-of-flight; TOFOR; JET; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : Considerable effort has been invested in attempting to generate electricity from the energy released in controlled thermonuclear fusion reactions, with a European fusion research roadmap stretching beyond 2050. Our current endeavors may culminate in a virtually inexhaustible, low-carbon energy source for future generations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fusion Plasma Observations at JET with the TOFOR Neutron Spectrometer : Instrumental Challenges and Physics Results

    Author : Maria Gatu Johnson; Matthias Weiszflog; Luciano Bertalot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion; Plasma diagnostics; Neutron Spectrometry; TOFOR; JET; ITER; time-of-flight; plasma heating; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The neutron spectrometer TOFOR was installed at JET in 2005 for high-rate observation of neutrons from reactions between two deuterium (D) ions. Neutron spectrometry as a fusion plasma diagnostic technique is invoked to obtain information about the velocity states of fusion fuel ions. READ MORE
