  1. 6. Neutrophils in atherosclerosis

    Author : Pierre Rotzius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is a complex inflammatory disease localized in medium-sized and large arteries and it is the most important contributor to cardiovascular disease. Complications of atherosclerosis such as myocardial infarction and stroke are leading causes of mortality in many countries. READ MORE

  2. 7. Membrane traffic in neutrophils and neutrophil-like cells

    Author : Susanne Bauer; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; membrane traffic; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; CD177; extracellulära vätskor; PR3; phagocytosis; Streptococcus pyogenes; Infektioner; neutrophils;

    Abstract : The neutrophil constitutes the first line of defence against invading organisms and its primary function is to recognize, phagocytose and kill intruding microorganisms. In this thesis, the membrane traffic in neutrophils and neutrophil-like cells was studied. Non-opsonised S. READ MORE

  3. 8. Cytokines and Neutrophils in the Urinary Tract Mucosa

    Author : Long Hang; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; neutrophils; chemokines; urinary tract infection; mucosa; epithelial cells; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : This study investigated the urinary tract cytokine reponse to infection and the role of chemokines for neutrophil recruitment to the urinary tract. The results suggest that 1) IL-8 and TGFb are consitutively produced by uroepithelial cells in vivo, and that uroepithelial cells are stimulated to produce IL-1b and IL-6 by uropathogenic Escherichia coli. 4. 9. Modulation of Receptor Signaling and Functional Selectivity in Neutrophils

    Author : Michael Gabl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; G-protein coupled receptors; reactive oxygen species; ligands; functional selectivity; allosteric modulation;

    Abstract : Neutrophils are important effector cells of the innate immune system and in the regulation of inflammation. Many of their functions, such as chemotactic migration, secretion of granule constituents and activation of the oxygen radical-producing NADPH-oxidase, are regulated by cell surface receptors. 5. 10. ß2 integrin-induced signal transduction events in human neutrophils

    Author : Fredrik Melander; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammation; integrins; signal transduction; Rho GTPases; kinases; c-Cbl; General pathology; patologisk anatomi; pathological anatomy; Patologi allmän ; neutrophils;

    Abstract : Inflammation is a localized protective response in vascularized tissues and can be induced by microbial infection or cell and tissue injury. Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) are the most common white blood cells and are recognized as major cellular mediators of acute inflammation. READ MORE
