  1. 1. Legacy persistent organic pollutants and chemicals of emerging concern in Sweden : from indoor environments to remote areas

    Author : Seth Newton; Cynthia de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Per Larsson; Annika Jahnke; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistent organic pollutants; atmospheric deposition; arctic; flame retardant; POP; long range transport; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : Bulk atmospheric deposition samples were taken every two months for a year in 2009-2010 at two sites in northern Sweden and analyzed for a suite of legacy and emerging persistent organic chemicals including legacy organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)  and novel flame retardants (NFRs).  To further investigate the urban occurrence and contribution to remote contamination of flame retardants, indoor air, ventilation system air, and dust were sampled in several microenvironments in Stockholm during the winter of 2012 for analysis of PBDEs, isomer-specific hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD), and NFRs. 2. 2. Business Basics : A Grounded Theory for Managing Ethical Behavior in Sales Organizations

    Author : Benny Berggren Newton; Lars-Johan Åge; Aihie Osarenkhoe; Erik A. Borg; Jens Hultman; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Management; Ethical Behavior; Business Basics; Sales Organizations; Grounded Theory; Management; Etiskt beteende; Business Basics; Säljande organisationer; Grundad Teori; Politics; Economy and the Organization of Society; Politik; ekonomi och samhällets organisering;

    Abstract : Background: Managing co-workers’ ethical behavior in sales organizations is a complex social process. To start, sales organizations incorporate several actors to manage, often simultaneously, all with their own agendas. READ MORE

  3. 3. Occurrence and fate of emerging and legacy flame retardants : from indoor environments to remote areas

    Author : Seth Newton; Cynthia de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Matthew MacLeod; Roland Kallenborn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Flame retardant; emerging; legacy; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; PBDE; HBCDD; long range transport; dust; air; soil; atmospheric deposition; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are toxic chemicals that can be found in various matrices in all corners of the planet, including remote areas such as the Arctic.  Several POPs are known and monitored but given the abundance of new chemicals in commerce about which little is known, chemicals that may be new POPs are constantly being screened for. 4. 4. Improved sequential decision-making with structural priors: Enhanced treatment personalization with historical data

    Author : Newton Mwai Kinyanjui; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; policy optimization; fixed-confidence pure exploration; historical data; personalization; structural priors; latent bandits; benchmark simulators;

    Abstract : Personalizing treatments for patients involves a period where different treatments out of a set of available treatments are tried until an optimal treatment is found, for particular patient characteristics. To minimize suffering and other costs, it is critical to minimize this search. READ MORE

  5. 5. Forecast: Crime with a chance of feeling unsafe : Examining unsafety (crime and fear of crime) within the context of the surrounding environment

    Author : Maria Camacho Doyle; Susanne Strand; Manne Gerell; Andy Newton; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Hotspot-Mapping; RTM; Micro-Place; Neighborhood; Prediction-Accuracy; Prediction-Efficiency; Violent-Crime; Property-Crime; Perceived-Unsafety; Fear of Crime; Avoidance;

    Abstract : In environmental criminology, various methods exist to forecast unsafety. Some are more complex than others. To determine their practicality, we must compare the accuracy of simple, transparent, and functional methods with slightly more complex methods and those requiring more data collection. READ MORE
