  1. 1. Reliability versus Cost in Next Generation Optical Access Networks

    Author : Mozhgan Mahloo; Lena Wosinska; Jiaji Chen; David B Payne; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber access network; passive optical network; reliability; techno-economic study; next generation optical access; network protection; wavelength division multiplexing;

    Abstract : The ever increasing demands of Internet users caused by the introduction of new high bandwidth applications and online services as well as the growing number of users and devices connected to the Internet, bring many challenges for the operators, especially in the last mile section of the network. Next generation access architectures are expected to offer high sustainable bandwidth per user. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hybrid Routing in Next Generation IP Networks : QoS Routing Mechanisms and Network Control Strategies

    Author : Antoine B Bagula; Björn Pehrson; Bukhard Stiller; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teletraffic systems; Teletrafiksystem;

    Abstract : Communication networks have evolved from circuit-switched and hop-by-hop routed systems into hybrid data/optical networks using the Internet as a common backbone carrying narrow- and broad-band traffic offered by a multitude of access networks. This data/optical backbone is built around a multi-technology/multi-protocol routing architecture which runs the IP protocols in a collapsed IP stack where ATM and SONET/SDH have been replaced by the suite of Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) protocols. Abstract : By 2020 there will be 50 billion connected devices over the Internet. With the fast-increasing data traffic demand in both fixed and mobile networks, network operators need to migrate networks towards next generation solutions. READ MORE

  4. 4. System-Wide Impacts of Distributed Generation on Power System Operation : Data-Driven Approaches to Addressing the Challenges of Integrating Distributed Generation

    Author : Tin Rabuzin; Lars Nordström; Marjan Popov; KTH; []

    Abstract : Deployment of distributed generation (DG) is happening at an increasing rate driven by both the need for the reduction of humanity's carbon footprint and economic opportunities. The trend of increasing penetration levels of DG has also introduced interdependence between the responsibilities of system operators and the owners of the generating units. READ MORE
