    Abstract : The mechanisms of β-cell destruction leading to type 1 diabetes are complex and not yet fully understood, but infiltration of the islets of Langerhans by autoreactive immune cells is believed to be important.     Abstract : A thorough understanding of beta-cell proliferation, function, death and regeneration under normal condition as well as in the progression of diabetes is crucial to the conquest of this disease.
