  1. 16. The Role of Innate Immunity in Islet Transplantation : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Author : Lisa Moberg; Bo Nilsson; Olle Korsgren; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Rolf Larsson; David Harlan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; diabetes; islet transplantation; islet of Langerhans; coagulation activation; IBMIR; tissue factor; thrombin; inactivated FVIIa; melagatran; neutrophilic granulocyte; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Clinical islet transplantation is an emerging procedure to cure type 1 diabetes. The graft is implanted by infusion into the liver through the portal vein. A major obstacle that still needs to be overcome is the requirement for islets from multiple donors to achieve insulin independence. READ MORE

  2. 17. Plasma as a Therapeutic Principle in Clinical Practice : With Special Reference to Sweden

    Author : Rut A C Norda; Bo Nilsson; Bernd G Stegmayr; Kristina Nilsson-Ekdahl; Volker Kretschmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunology; adverse effects; contact activation; plasma exchange; plasma storage; severe sepsis; therapeutic apheresis; transfusion; Immunologi;

    Abstract : The newly established Swedish Apheresis Registry makes it possible to do national inter-center comparisons. This study was undertaken to describe and analyze the use of therapeutic apheresis and the adverse effects in such therapy. READ MORE

  3. 18. Coteaching chemical bonding with Upper secondary senior students : A way to refine teachers PCK

    Author : Felix Schultze; Pernilla Nilsson; Zimmerman Nilsson Marie-Helene; Anna Vikström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Coteaching; pedagogical content knowledge; pck; chemical bonding; representations; chemistry education; chemistry didactic;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate how an experienced chemistry teacher gains and refines her pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) by cooperating with two grade 12 students (age 18) as coteachers while teaching chemical bonding in a grade 10 Upper secondary class. The study has been conducted from a sociocultural perspective, especially Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development (ZPD) (Vygotsky, 1978). READ MORE

  4. 19. Assembling a toolkit for computational dissection of dense protein systems

    Author : Daniel Nilsson; Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; macromolecular crowding; liquid-liquid phase separation; Monte Carlo simulation; time-lagged independent component analysis; finite-size scaling; polymer field theory; protein force field; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Nilsson;

    Abstract : The cellular interior is a dense environment. Understanding how such an environment impacts the properties of proteins and other macromolecules, as well as how weak, non-specific interactions drive processes such as protein droplet formation through liquid-liquid phase separation, is a major challenge in biological physics. 5. 20. Charge and Spin Transport in Parallel-Coupled Quantum Dots in Nanowires

    Author : Malin Nilsson; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Nilsson;

    Abstract : This thesis explores crystal-phase engineering of nanowires to fabricate advanced quantum structures for charge and spin transport studies. Quantum dots formed by crystal-phase tuning during epitaxial growth of InAs nanowires were used as a starting point to realize and electrically characterize two different types of parallel-coupled quantum dots; electron-hole quantum dots and electron-electron quantum dots.
