  1. 1. The value of experimental data and modelling for exploration of hydrological functioning: The case of a till hillslope

    Author : Nino Amvrosiadi; Jan Seibert; Kevin Bishop; Keith Beven; April James; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Successfully modeling one system response (e.g. hydrograph or solute transport) sometimes gives the false sense of well-characterizing the modeled system. This is partly because of the well-known equifinality issue; during the calibration process multiple parameter combinations can produce similarly good results. READ MORE

  2. 2. Timing Diagnostics and Coherent Harmonics from a test-FEL

    Author : Nino Cutic; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Free electron laser; undulator radiation; coherent harmonic generation; circular polariyation; vacuum ultra-violet; seed pulse timing; bunch length; electro-optical spectral decoding;

    Abstract : The test free-electron laser (test-FEL) at MAX-lab in Lund demonstrated for the first time circularly polarized coherent femtosecond pulses at 66 nm wavelength. A 375 MeV electron bunch was seeded by a femtosecond laser at 263 nm and coherent harmonics were extracted in an APPLE-II type elliptical undulator. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quantum Chemical Modeling of Enzymatic Methyl Transfer Reactions

    Author : Polina Georgieva; Fahmi Himo; Nino Russo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reaction mechanism; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, quantum chemistry, in particular the B3LYP density functional method, is used to investigate a number of methyl transfer enzymes. Quantum chemical methodology is today a very important tool in the elucidation of properties and reaction mechanisms of enzyme active sites. READ MORE

  4. 4. Computational studies of photodynamic drugs, phototoxic reactions and drug design

    Author : Klefah Abrahem Klefah Musa; Leif Eriksson; Nino Russo; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NSAIDs; fluoroquinolone; photodegradation; phototoxicity; drug design; DFT; TD-DFT; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The most important criterion when designing new drugs or improving old ones in order to prevent side effects or at least diminish them is drug safety. Treatment of all diseases generally needs use of either topical application or systemic medications (transported in the blood) during a certain period of time. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Influence of Climate and Public Health Interventions on Aedes Vectors and Dengue in Sri Lanka

    Author : Prasad Liyanage; Joacim Rocklöv; Yesim Tozan; Hasitha Tissera; Flemming Konradsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dengue; weather; climate; El Niño; Aedes vector indices; human mobility; vector control; cost-effectiveness analysis; Sri Lanka; Kalutara.;

    Abstract : Introduction: Dengue, a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitos, flourishes in urban tropical environments by a complex process. Interactions among susceptible humans, dengue viruses, and Aedes mosquitoes determine dengue transmission patterns, and these interactions are modified by driving factors related to weather, the environment, and human behaviour, including mobility.
