21. Nitric Oxide Reductase from Paracoccus denitrificans : A Proton Transfer Pathway from the “Wrong” Side
Abstract : Denitrification is an anaerobic process performed by several soil bacteria as an alternative to aerobic respiration. A key-step in denitrification (the N-N-bond is made) is catalyzed by nitric oxide reductase (NOR); 2NO + 2e- + 2H+ → N2O + H2O. READ MORE

22. Islet constitutive nitric oxide synthase and nitric oxide production. Modulatory effects on insulin and glucagon secretion
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the transduction signalling of insulin and glucagon release by stimulating or inhibiting islet endogenous NO-production as well as by using NO donors. Insulin release stimulated by L-arginine, the substrate for constitutive NO-synthase (cNOS)-catalyzed NO-production, was increased by the selective NOS-inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) and suppressed by the intracellular NO donor hydroxylamine. 23. Regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase - Consequences in experimental models of bladder disease
Abstract : Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression is associated with various pathophysiological conditions in the lower urinary tract. The aims of this thesis have been to investigate the regulation of iNOS in bladder smooth muscle cells and the consequences on neuromuscular regulation, cell growth and differentiation. READ MORE

24. Carbon monoxide and nitric oxide as antimicrobial agents : focus on ESBL-producing uropathogenic E.coli
Abstract : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are common in humans and most often caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli are increasing worldwide and they are frequently multidrug-resistant with limited treatment options. READ MORE

25. Novel Interventions in Cardiac Arrest : Targeted Temperature Management, Methylene Blue, S-PBN, Amiodarone, Milrinone and Esmolol, Endothelin and Nitric Oxide In Porcine Resuscitation Models
Abstract : It is a major clinical problem that survival rates after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have not markedly improved during the last decades, despite extensive research and the introduction of new interventions. However, recent studies have demonstrated promising treatments such as targeted temperature management (TTM) and methylene blue (MB). READ MORE
