  1. 1. Kidney Function During Ageing and its Association with Bone Mass, Fracture and Mortality

    Author : Linnea Malmgren; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Geriatrik; Njurfunktion; ortopedi; Fraktur; Benmassa; Åldrande;

    Abstract : Osteoporosis and osteoporosis related fractures are a major health care challenge both in Sweden and globally. The cost and suffering from osteoporosis are expected to increase since the population of elderly is increasing. Bone health can be affected by altered mineral homeostasis, which in its turn can be affected by reduced kidney function. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Kidney in Different Stages of the Cardiovascular Continuum

    Author : Elisabet Nerpin; Johan Ärnlöv; Erik Ingelsson; Ulf Riserus; Jan Östergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; chronic kidney disease; cystatin C; glomerular filtration rate; albuminuria; euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp; insulin sensitivity; inflammation; oxidative stress; endothelial dysfunction and left ventricular dysfunction; Medicin; Medicine; Nedsatt njurfunktion; insulinresistens; oxidativ stress och utvecklingen av hjärt-kärlsjukdomar;

    Abstract : Patients with chronic kidney disease are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The complex, interaction between the kidney and the cardiovascular system is incompletely understood, particularly at the early stages of the cardiovascular continuum. READ MORE

  3. 3. Importance of renal function in cardiac surgery

    Author : Alain Dardashti; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute kidney injury; eGFR; Transfusion; Mortality; Erythropoietin; Cardiac surgery;

    Abstract : Abstract Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious complication after cardiothoracic surgery and is associated with increased short- and long-term mortality risk. Despite extensive studies in the field, a comprehensive understanding of this syndrome has remained elusive, partly due to divergent definitions of AKI and partly due to the limitations of available routine biomarkers to predict, prevent, and detect AKI. 4. 4. MANAGING DRUG USE IN THE ELDERLY. General practitioners’ adherence to guidelines and patients’ conceptions of medication

    Author : Sara Modig; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Elderly; drug therapy; medication knowledge; beliefs about medicines; adherence; guidelines; renal function; renal risk drugs; cardiovascular disease; GP; primary care;

    Abstract : Introduction: Older patients’ knowledge about their medicines is generally poor. Patients are entitled to be informed on an individual and adequate level. READ MORE

  5. 5. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death.
