  1. 1. Fluid Management in Haemodialysis : Studies on current practices and new methods

    Author : Jenny Stenberg; Hans Furuland; Magnus Lindberg; Eva Tiensuu Janson; Bernd Stegmayr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Haemodialysis; Fluid management; Fluid overload; Bioimpedance spectroscopy; Dry weight; Brain natriuretic peptide; Decision aid; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Chronic fluid overload has been identified as an independent predictor of mortality in haemodialysis patients, and 30% remain fluid overloaded at dry weight. The use of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) in fluid management may improve blood pressure control and cardiovascular status. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fibroblast growth factor-23 and Klotho in bone/mineral and parathyroid disorders

    Author : Tijana Krajisnik; Tobias E. Larsson; Kenneth B. Jonsson; Östen Ljunggren; Peyman Björklund; Gunnar Sterner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; calcitriol; chronic kidney disease; CKD; chronic renal failure; fibroblast growth factor 23; fibroblast growth factor-23; FGF23; FGF-23; GalNac-T3; GALNT3; GFR; hyperostosis-hyperphosphatemia syndrome; HHS; Klotho; parathyroid hormone; PTH; hyperparathyroidism; pHPT; sHPT; uremic; vitamin D3; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) is a novel, bone-produced hormone that regulates renal phosphate (Pi) reabsorption and calcitriol metabolism. Disorders of mineral and bone metabolism, such as autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets (ADHR) and hyperostosis-hyperphosphatemia syndrome (HHS), witness the importance of well-balanced serum levels of FGF23. 3. 3. Immunoglobulins, immunoglobulin subclass-distributions and serologic markers in some renal and systemic disorders

    Author : Gabriel Almroth; Jan Björklander; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunoglobulins; immunoglobulin-subclass distribution; hydralazine; ANCA; anti-:MPO; primary SjOgren s syndrome; hepatitis B vaccination; anti-HBssubclasses; immunoadsorption; plasmapheresis; antibodies; hepatitis C virus; transmission; recombinant immunoblot assay; hepatitis C genotype; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In this study we evaluated pathogenetic factors and possible mediators of renal and systemic disorders where immunologic mechanisms might be of importance.An abberant immunoglobulin and IgG-subclass distribution was detected in 103 patients with primary and secondary glomerulonephritis as well as in 38 patients with the systemic disease primary Sjögren 's syndrome or purpura hypergammaglobulinemica (elevated IgG1 and low IgG2 ). 4. 4. Experimental studies of small intestinal permeability and function in uremia

    Author : Martin Magnusson; Anders Alvestrand; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The intestinal permeability has been investigated in experimental chronic and acute uremia in rats. The permeability and the mucosal ability to exclude larger molecules have been measured using differently sized polyethylene glycols (PEG 400 and 1000: mean weights of 400 and 1000 dalton, range 326-1162 dalton). 5. 5. Proteinase 3 and Neutrophil Apoptosis in ANCA-Associated Systemic Vasculitis

    Author : Mohamed AbdGawad; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wegener’s granulomatosis; anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody ANCA . Proteinase 3 PR3 ; myeloperoxidase MPO . Flowcytometry FACS . Vasculitis.; microscopic polyangitis;

    Abstract : ANCA-Associated Systemic Vasculitis (AASV) is characterized by leukocytoclasis- dying neutrophils surrounding small blood vessels. Previous studies have shown increased plasma PR3 and increased proportion of neutrophils expressing plasma membrane-associated PR3 (mPR3+). READ MORE
