  1. 1. Some aspects of non-metallic inclusions during vacuum degassing in ladle treatment : with emphasize on liquid CaO-Al2O3 inclusions

    Author : Young Jo Kang; Du Sichen; Takahiro Miki; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusions; ladle refining; vacuum degassing; ladle glaze; spinel; SiO2 activity; agglomeration; cold model; open-eye; inclusion removal; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The present thesis was to study non-metallic inclusions during vacuum degassing in ladle treatment. Emphasize was mostly given to liquid CaO-Al2O3 inclusions. A series of industrial experiments were carried out at Uddeholm Tooling AB, Hagfors, Sweden. To gain an insight into the industrial findings, laboratory investigations were also performed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Wettability and Agglomeration Characteristics of Non-Metallic Inclusions

    Author : Changji Xuan; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wettability; non-metallic inclusion; agglomeration mechanism; attraction force; complex deoxidation; particle addition; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : In this thesis, both the wettability and the agglomeration characteristics of non-metallic inclusions in liquid iron/steel were studied by using both experimental results and thermodynamic considerations. The mechanisms of the wettability of different types of inclusions were discussed. READ MORE

    Abstract : It is well known that inclusions affect the properties of steels and alloys. Therefore, it is important to understand what type of inclusions that exist and how they behave and especially with a focus on large size inclusions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Non-metallic inclusions in pipeline steels and their effect on the corrosion resistance

    Author : Elena Sidorova; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pipeline steels; Ca-treatment; non-metallic inclusions; electrolytic extraction; corrosion; chemical extraction; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract :  This thesis focus on investigations of the influence of non-metallic inclusions on corrosion in steel samples taken at different stages of the steel production when producing pipeline steels. The electrolytic extraction technique was used to extract inclusions from these steel samples and thereafter studying them using scanning electron microscopy in combination with energy dispersive microscopy. 5. 5. Slag, Steel, Ladle and Non-metallic Inclusions Equilibria in an ASEA-SKF Ladle Furnace

    Author : Kamrooz Riyahimalayeri; Malin Selleby; Johan Björkvall; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Clean steel; Top slag; Non-Metallic Inclusions; Oxides; Vacuum Degassing; Deoxidation; Desulphurization; Equilibrium; Computational Thermodynamics; Scanning electron microscopy;

    Abstract : This study explores the possibility of prediction and modification of some of the physicochemical properties of non-metallic inclusions by considering top slag-steel-ladle equilibria in an ASEA-SKF ladle furnace. To test the reliability of an available computational thermodynamic computer program, the first sub project was done. READ MORE
