  1. 1. Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders of Arthrogeneous Origin. Controlled double-blind studies of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and a stabilisation appliance

    Author : EwaCarin Ekberg; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Temporomandibular Joint Disorders; Randomized Controlled Trials; Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Agents; Occlusal Splints; Treatment Outcome; Mandibular Condyle Radiography; Subtraction Technique; Radiographic Image Enhancement; Causality; Odontology; stomatology; Odontologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to prospectively evaluate the short-term effect of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (diclofenac sodium, Voltaren) and stabilisation appliance in controlled trials of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) of arthrogeneous origin. The active treatments were compared to placebo in the study of diclofenac and to a control appliance in the other study. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fatty acid amide hydrolase - A target for anti-inflammatory therapies?

    Author : Sandra Holt; Christopher J Fowler; Anders Bucht; Gunnar Tiger; Ruth A Ross; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; FAAH; anandamide; endocannabinoid; pH; inflammation; NSAID; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Anti-inflammatory drugs are a widely used class of therapeutic agents, but the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) is hampered by their gastrointestinal side-effects. Recent reports that cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors may cause cardiovascular events underline the importance of identifying new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of inflammation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Faecal Calprotectin Diagnostics : Focus on Primary Care and Suspected Sources of Error

    Author : Zlatica Rendek; Henrik Hjortswang; Magnus Falk; Ewa Grodzinsky; Stergios Kechagias; Mikael Lilja; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Calprotectin; Inflammatory bowel disease; Gastrointestinal disease; Primary health care; Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents; Proton pump inhibitors; Respiratory tract infection;

    Abstract : Patients with gastrointestinal symptoms often present a diagnostic challenge for general practitioners. Faecal calprotectin (FC) is commonly used as a marker of intestinal inflammation and is useful for differentiating between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as for the follow-up of patients with IBD and monitoring treatment response. 4. 4. Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors and knee prosthesis surgery

    Author : Andreas Meunier; Lars Good; Per Aspenberg; Tore Dalén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents; administration dosage; Arthroplasty; knee replacement; Surgical blood loss; Surgery; Cyclooxygenase inhibitors; Cyclooxygenase inhibitors; Fracture healing; Isoxazoles; Postoperative pain; Pyrazoles; Sulfonamides; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Adverse effects of cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors on bone healing have previously been demonstrated in diaphyseal fracture models in animals. In spite of that, they are widely used as postoperative analgesics in orthopaedic surgery. After joint replacement, a bone repair process starts at the interface between bone and cement. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation of polysucrose 15000 as a marker of intestinal permeability

    Author : Hans Öman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Polysucrose Permeability Intestinal Absorption Cell Memhrane Permeahility Molecular WeightMacromolecular systems Biological Markers Biological Transport Crohn Disease Arthritis; RheumatoidAnti-lnflammatory Agents; Non-Steroidal Chromium Radioisotop;

    Abstract : Polysucrose (PS) is a synthetic copolymer of sucrose and epichlorohydrin, which can be produced in a variety of molecular sizes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the functionality of PS 15000, mean mol wt 14700, as a marker for intestinal permeability to macro molecules. READ MORE
