    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stochastic partial differential equation; mathematics; numerical analysis; numerical scheme; time integrator; convergence analysis; blowup; critical exponent; nonlinear Schrödinger equation; Manakov equation; Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation; BBM equation; stochastic; random; dispersion; white noise dispersion; finite difference; pseudospectral; code; matlab; exponential integrator; splitting integrator; convergence in probability; Mathematics; matematik; Numerical Analysis; numerisk analys;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis provides a comprehensive numerical analysis and exploration of several stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs). More specifically, this thesis investigates time integrators for SPDEs with white noise dispersion. READ MORE

  2. 2. Short Pulses in Engineered Nonlinear Media

    Author : Stefan Holmgren; Fredrik Laurell; Derryck Reid; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; KTiOPO4; frequency conversion; mode-locked lasers; ultra-fast lasers; visible lasers; short pulses; ultrafast nonlinear optics; diagnostic applications of nonlinear optics; nonlinear optical materials; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Short optical pulses and engineered nonlinear media is a powerful combination. Mode locked pulses exhibit high peak powers and short pulse duration and the engineered ferro-electric KTiOPO4 facilitates several different nonlinear processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift

    Author : Carl-Erik Janson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; desingularized; shape optimization; Rankine source; waves; OCTOPUS; dipole; MMA; Dawson operator; boundary layer; vortex; Method of Moving Asymptotes; nonlinear; sailing yacht; four point operator; surface piercing wing; Navier-Stokes; numerical method; lift force; raised panel method; discrete Fourier transform; collocation point shift; potential flow; CFD; free surface; induced drag; SHIPFLOW; dispersion; damping; analytical method; hydrofoil;

    Abstract : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 5. 5. Generation and Applications of Picosecond Pulses in High-Capacity Fiber Optic Systems

    Author : Jie Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear distortion; optical pulse shaping; dispersion-management; eye-diagram; cross-phase modulation; optical sampling; optical fiber applications; multiplexing; parametric amplification; demultiplexing; optical pulses; fiber optical communication; nonlinear systems; time division multiplexing; four-wave mixing; polarization-mode dispersion; optical signal processing; fiber optical nonlinearities; fiber ring laser; soliton robustness; mode-locking; optical filters; networks;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with short optical pulse generation from actively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber ring lasers (ML-EFRL) and their applications in all-optical signal processing (optical sampling and switching) and transmission experiments for high-capacity fiber optic systems. In future ultra-high bit-rate optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems, one of the key requirements is to develop reliable optical pulse sources that can generate high quality optical pulses.
