  1. 16. Gene Expression Studies of Hematologic Malignacies

    Author : Anna Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; oncology; Cytology; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; normal hematopoietic cells; cDNA microarray; gene expression profiling; hematopoiesis; pediatric leukemia; fusion gene; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancerology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to characterize hematologic malignancies using gene expression profiling in order to obtain an improved classification and to study deregulated transcriptional networks in leukemia. In the first study (Article I), the gene expression profiles of hematologic cell lines were analyzed to investigate whether such cell lines maintain expression profiles that are characteristic of their primary genetic changes. 2. 17. The Impact of Fracture Geometry on the Hydromechanical Behaviour of Crystalline Rock

    Author : Johan Thörn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laboratory experiments; Fracture aperture; In situ experiments; Conceptual model; Äspö HRL; Fracture geometry; Stereo photogrammetry; Hydromechanical coupling; Fracture normal stiffness;

    Abstract : Effective construction of tunnels in fractured crystalline rock requires a unified approach for handling rock mechanics and hydrogeological issues. Traditionally, rock mechanics and hydrogeology not only use different nomenclature, they also measure parameters such as e.g. aperture differently. READ MORE

  3. 18. Metamodel based multi-objective optimization

    Author : Kaveh Amouzgar; Peter Hansbo; Niclas Strömberg; Kent Salomonsson; Sunith Bandaru; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multi-objective optimization; strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm; SPEA2; metamodel; surrogate model; response surface; radial basis functions; RBF;

    Abstract : As a result of the increase in accessibility of computational resources and the increase in the power of the computers during the last two decades, designers are able to create computer models to simulate the behavior of a complex products. To address global competitiveness, companies are forced to optimize their designs and products. READ MORE

  4. 19. Active Health Monitoring of Aerospace Composite Structures by Embedded Piezoceramic Transducers

    Author : Christophe Paget; KTH; []

    Abstract : The objectives of the thesis work were to study theinteraction between embedded piezoceramic transducers andcomposite structures as well as determine techniques tosimplify the Lamb waves analysis. Firstly, this studyconsidered the design of the embedded piezoceramic transducers. READ MORE

  5. 20. Science-policy interaction in the governance of complex socio-ecological risks : The case of chemicals management in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Oksana Udovyk; Michael Gilek; Johan Hedrén; Sivlio Funtowicz; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Risk; Uncertainty; MSFD; HELCOM; REACH; post-normal science; precautionary; participation; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I examine knowledge production and science-policy interaction associated with the management of chemical substances in the Baltic Sea under conditions of uncertainty and complexity. The thesis is primarily based on a qualitative analysis of policy documents and reports produced by the European Union (EU), the Helsinki Commission, the Swedish Chemicals Agency, and Gothenburg municipality, as well as 30 semi-structured interviews with scientific experts, policy makers, and government officials with knowledge and working experience in the relevant policy arenas.
