1. Selenoproteins in the Bovine Mammary Gland. Regulation of mRNA and Protein Expression
Abstract : Selenium is a micronutrient that is essential for many important life processes due to the action of the specific selenoproteins containing one or more of the 21st amino acid, selenocysteine. Twenty-five selenoprotein genes have been found in the human genome but the function of many of them is not yet known. READ MORE

2. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology
Abstract : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. READ MORE

3. Somatostatin neurotransmission : studies on experimentally induced cognitive changes and Alzheimer’s disease
Abstract : Several neuropeptides are widely distributed in regions of the central nervous system (CNS) which are associated with cognitive functions. Multiple studies on postmortem Alzheimer's disease (AD) brains have shown depleted neuropeptide content and morphological abnormalities of somatostatin (SS)-containing interneurons in the hippocampus and the cerebral cortex. 4. Isolation and characterization of genes within the region for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 on chromosome 11q13
Abstract : This thesis summarizes the investigations of three genes isolated from the locus for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) within the chromosomal region 11q13. As a common strategy for all three genes, the cDNA was sequenced, the genomic structure characterized, and the expression pattern analyzed by Northern blotting on human tissues and by in situ RNA hybridization on slides from rodent embryos. 5. Arachidonic acid metabolism in corneal epithelial cells : Identification of lipoxygenase isoforms
Abstract : The metabolism of arachidonic acid in the human cornea was investigated and compared with the metabolism in cattle and primates. All three species showed significant arachidonic acid metabolism inthe epithelium, whereas the activity in the stroma and the endothelium was low or undetectable. READ MORE
