  1. 6. Studies of Accelerator-Driven Systems for Transmutation of Nuclear Waste

    Author : Marcus Dahlfors; Ane Håkansson; Alfred Hogenbirk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; transmutation; accelerator-driven systems; Energy Amplifier; subcritical reactors; nuclear waste; Monte Carlo simulation; burnup; actinides; fission products; benchmark; nuclear data; neutron cross sections; sensitivity analysis; neutron source; spallation target; n_TOF experiment; neutron time-of-flight; cross section measurement; FLUKA; EA-MC; MCNP; MCNP-X; EADF; TRADE; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Accelerator-driven systems for transmutation of nuclear waste have been suggested as a means for dealing with spent fuel components that pose potential radiological hazard for long periods of time. While not entirely removing the need for underground waste repositories, this nuclear waste incineration technology provides a viable method for reducing both waste volumes and storage times. 2. 7. Development of Techniques for 3D Imaging with Focused Ion Beams - Hydrogen Depth Profiling and Microtomography with Applications in Geology

    Author : Marie Wegdén; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrogen analysis; Depth profiling; Ion beam analysis; Nuclear microprobe; Physics; Nuclear physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2007:Wegdén; Kärnfysik; Tomography; 3D Imaging;

    Abstract : In nuclear microprobe experiments, high resolution maps of the measured parameter, e.g. element- or mass distribution, in a sample can be produced with a variety of ion beam analytical techniques. The principle underlying all the techniques is that ions at MeV energies are used as projectiles to cause interactions with the target material. READ MORE

  3. 8. Mesonic fusion - pion and eta meson production in light ion nuclear fusion reactions

    Author : Irina Zartova; Per-Erik Tegnér; Thomas Nilsson; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : The present thesis describes two experiments performed in the storage ring CELSIUS at The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala. In the first experiment the importance of three - nucleon clustering in the six - nucelon system was investigated. The total cross section for the production of the ground state and the 3. READ MORE

  5. 10. Lifetime measurements of excited states in 165Lu and 107Cd

    Author : Karin Andgren; Bo Cederwall; Nicolae Sandulescu; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear Physics; Experimental Nuclear Strucuture; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Measuring lifetimes of excited nuclear states can give important information on the internal structure of the nucleus. This thesis is based on two experiments performed in Italy and in the USA in order to deduce the lifetimes of excited states in 165Lu and 107Cd. READ MORE
