1. Runge–Kutta Time Step Selection for Flow Problems
Abstract : Optimality is studied for Runge-Kutta iteration for solving steady-state and time dependent flow problems. For the former type an algorithm for determining locally optimal time steps is developed, based on the fact that the squared norm of the residual produced by an m-stage scheme is a 2m-degree polynomial, the coefficients of which can be computed from scalar products of Krylov subspace vectors. 2. Numerical methods for Sylvester-type matrix equations and nonlinear eigenvalue problems
Abstract : Linear matrix equations and nonlinear eigenvalue problems (NEP) appear in a wide variety of applications in science and engineering. Important special cases of the former are the Lyapunov equation, the Sylvester equation, and their respective generalizations. These appear, e.g. READ MORE

3. High Order Finite Difference Methods in Space and Time
Abstract : In this thesis, high order accurate discretization schemes for partial differential equations are investigated. In the first paper, the linearized two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are considered. READ MORE

4. Numerical modelling and analysis of friction contact for turbine blades
Abstract : High cycle fatigue failure of turbine and compressor blades due to resonance in the operating frequency range is one of the main problems in the design of gas turbine engines. To suppress excessive vibrations in the blades and prevent high cycle fatigue, dry friction dampers are used by the engine manufacturers. READ MORE

5. Out-of-Round Railway Wheels - Causes and Consequences An Investigation Including Field Tests, Out-of-Roundness Measurements and Numerical Simulations
Abstract : Causes and consequences of out-of-round railway wheels are investigated through literature studies, full-scale field experiments, out-of-roundness measurements, and numerical simulations. Both defects around the complete wheel circumference (e.g. polygonal wheels with wavelengths up to one wheel circumference) and local defects (e. READ MORE
