2. Hadronic Structure Measurements of the Photon by DELPHI at LEP II
Abstract : This thesis is mainly an analysis of data taken by the VSAT detector in the DELPHI experiment at the LEP II collider at CERN. The analysis spans from 1998 to 2000, with a center of mass energy ranging from 189 to 206 GeV. READ MORE

3. Development of Multi-Dimensional Laser Techniques for In-situ Combustion Diagnostics
Abstract : Multi-dimensional, laser-based measurements of quantities important for obtaining a better understanding of combustion processes, particularly of temperature and of species distributions, were performed using laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). The main purpose of the temperature experiments was to investigate the potential of employing a two-line atomic fluorescence technique (TLAF), using indium as the tracer species, in sooting environments such as in diesel engines. 4. Molecular diagnostics of infectious diseases
Abstract : In DNA-based diagnostics, the polymerase chain reaction(PCR) is the most widely used DNA amplification method. Toenable both sensitive and specific detection of agents causinginfectious diseases, the PCR needs to becombined with methodsto prepare the clinical sample containing the genetic materialof the pathogen. 5. Growth hormone and the heart in children
Abstract : Background and Aims: The fact that growth hormone (GH) influences cardiovascular structure and function is well established through both human and animal studies. Despite being secreted in a pulsatile fashion, only the impact of peak GH concentrations on cardiac parameters has previously been reported, and the time-dependency of cardiovascular effects during GH treatment has not been detailed.
