  1. 1. Metabolic and Cardiovascular Responses During Variable Intensity Exercise

    Author : Glenn Björklund; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cross-country skiing; cycling; heart rate; lactate; O2 extraction; O2 uptake; performance; ventilation; Sports; Idrott;

    Abstract : Previous research investigating endurance sports from a physiological perspectivehas mainly used constant or graded exercise protocols, although the nature ofsports like cross-country skiing and road cycling leads to continuous variations inworkload. Current knowledge is thus limited as regards physiological responses tovariations in exercise intensity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Physiology of Cross-Country Skiing : with a special emphasis on the role of the upper body

    Author : Hans-Christer Holmberg; Björn Ekblom; Johnny Nilsson; Niels H. Secher; Mittuniversitetet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

  3. 3. Proton pathways in energy conversion : K-pathway analogs in O2- and NO-reductases

    Author : Nathalie Gonska; Pia Ädelroth; Alessandro Giuffré; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme-copper oxidase; cytochrome c oxidase; membrane protein; respiration; electron transfer; proton transfer; redox reaction; metalloprotein; non-heme iron; cytochrome ba3; flow-flash; carbon monoxide; liposome; respiratory control ratio; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Oxygen and nitric oxide reductases are enzymes found in aerobic and anaerobic respiration, respectively. Both enzyme groups belong to the superfamily of Heme-Copper Oxidases, which is further divided into several subgroups: oxygen-reducing enzymes into A-, B- and C-type and nitric oxide reductases into qNORs and cNORs. 4. 4. Proton, Electron, and O2 transfer in Cytochrome c Oxidase

    Author : Lina Salomonsson; Peter Brzezinski; Marilyn Gunner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; electron transfer; proton transfer; proton pumping; kinetic isotope effect; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : In mitochondria and aerobic bacteria energy conservation involves electron transfer through the membrane-bound protein of the respiratory chain to oxygen. Cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) catalyzes the reduction of oxygen to water. Part of the energy released in this reaction is used to pump protons across the membrane. READ MORE

  5. 5. Assessment of Aerobic Capacity A Novel Rating Scale and Further Development of an Exercise Test including Analysis of Gas Exchange

    Author : Anita Wisén; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Physical medicine; Time constant of V O2; Cycle ergometer; Perceived Capacity; Perceived exertion; Heart rate; Oxygen uptake; Reference values; Oxygen kinetics; Repeatability; Thresholds;

    Abstract : Different methods are proposed to assess the aerobic capacity. A novel scale, rating of perceived capacity (RPC) based on metabolic equivalents (METs) from 1 to 20, is presented. Selected MET values are linked to physical activities. READ MORE
