  1. 1. Prevalence and Inheritance of Hip Osteoarthritis in Iceland

    Author : Thorvaldur Ingvarsson; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; gene; inheritance; age standardiation; prevalence; THR; Hip; OA; traumatologi; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatology; orthopaedics;

    Abstract : Hereditary factors are suggested to contribute to osteoarthritis (OA), but their relative importance is uncertain. Moreover, the underlying specific variations at the genome level remain unknown. The prevalence of hip OA in Iceland was assessed by examining colon radiographs and was found to be at least 5-fold higher compared to Sweden and Denmark. READ MORE

  2. 2. Patient Relevant Outcome after Total Hip Replacement in Osteoarthritis

    Author : Anna Nilsdotter; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; predictors; patient relevant; OA; THR; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of the study was to evaluate patient relevant outcome after total hip replacement (THR) in patients with primary osteoarthritis (OA). 247 patients >50 years of age with primary hip OA, operated on with THR (Sept1995—Oct1998), were investigated consecutively and prospectively. 68 of the THR were made with hybrid technique. 3. 3. Towards sustainable heavy-duty transportation : Combustion and emissions using renewable fuels in a compression ignition engine

    Author : Maja Novakovic; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RME; HVO; E85; methanol; ethanol; decarbonization; defossilization; heavy-duty; compression-ignition engine; ow temperature combustion; PPC; emissions; PM; particles; aerosol; OA; SOA; DOC;

    Abstract : Transportation should become sustainable and available to everyone. Currently, transportation accounts for approx. one sixth of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally, and heavy-duty trucks are responsible for almost 30% of that. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cookstoves, Candles, and Phthalates – Real Time Physicochemical Characterization and Human Exposure to Indoor Aerosols

    Author : Christina Andersen; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aerosol particles; OA; BC; cookstoves; candle emissions; phthalates; human exposure; PAHs;

    Abstract : Exposure to air pollution is associated with adverse health effects in humans, with special concern for exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5). The physicochemical properties of aerosols impact the health effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Imaging of tissue degeneration in knee osteoarthritis using magnetic resonance and synchrotron radiation

    Author : Emma Einarsson; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging MRI ; osteoarthritis OA ; Meniscus; Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer CEST ; Relaxation time; Synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographic microscopy;

    Abstract : Osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common disease, especially in the knee. It is characterized by the breakdown of articular cartilage but involves all parts of the joint. OA is usually diagnosed at a late stage when the articular cartilage has begun to disappear. What happens before these macroscopic alterations is to alarge extent unknown. READ MORE
