1. PACAP and orphanin FQ/nociceptin -Distribution, importance and regulation in sensory neurons and spinal cord
Abstract : Neuropeptide expression in the nervous system is abundant and plastic, and an altered expression after injury is an example of a functional response, helping the neuron to cope with adverse changes, and involves effects on differentiation, synthesis, repair/regeneration, survival, and modulation of signal transmission. I have investigated the distribution/expression of the neuropeptides, orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP), under normal conditions, in response to nerve injuries, and also studied sensory responses in mice deficient for the PAC1 receptor (PAC1-/-). 2. Non-caloric regulation of food intake
Abstract : Food intake is shaped by environmental, endocrine, metabolic, and reward-related signals. A change in appetite is an outcome of integration of the relevant external and internal stimuli. While the main purpose of eating is to reverse a negative energy balance, mechanisms protecting homeostasis change appetite for other reasons. READ MORE

3. In vitro and postmortem studies of the brain opioid system : association to opiate dependence
Abstract : Opioids such as heroin are highly addictive illicit drugs. The μ opioid receptor (MOR) plays a central role in mediating the effects of opiates and related opioid. READ MORE

4. Endogenous Opioids and Voluntary Ethanol Drinking : Consequences of Postnatal Environmental Influences in Rats
Abstract : Genetic and environmental factors interact to determine the individual vulnerability to develop ethanol dependence. The neurobiological mechanisms underlying these processes are not fully understood. Endogenous opioid peptides have been suggested to contribute. READ MORE

5. Peptidergic innervation of periarticular tissue : a study in the rat
Abstract : Painful musculo-skeletal disorders pose a tremendous burden on the healthcare system, the main reason being the limited knowledge of the underlying pathomechanisms and lack of specific treatment. Hypothetically, the peripheral nervous system in the musculo-skeletal tissues plays an important role in the regulation of pain, inflammation, vasoactivity and also tissue repair. READ MORE
