  1. 1. Proteoglycan Lectin Domain Interactions in Extracellular Matrix Assembly

    Author : Anders Olin; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; General biomedical sciences; crystal structure; network formation; collagen IX; N-glycans; PRELP; cross-linking; fibulin-2; lectin; G3; ECM; proteoglycan;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the C-terminal G3 region of the large aggregating proteoglycans that are found in complex with hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix. The G3 region contains a C-type lectin domain that binds different extracellular matrix proteins playing an integral role in tissue organization during development and remodeling. READ MORE

  2. 2. The development of the human immune system during the first five years of life

    Author : Axel Olin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Systems immunology is a scientific field combining high-throughput analytic technologies and integrative data analysis to study the immune system from a holistic perspective. As the immune system is a complex integrated network of cells and proteins interacting in order to produce higher-level emergent behavior, the more traditional approach to immunological research is not fully capable of adequately describing these interactions. 3. 3. Ecosystems in the Anthropocene: the role of cropland management for carbon and nitrogen cycle processes

    Author : Stefan Olin; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon; Nitrogen; DVM; Ecosystem modelling; Cropland; Management; Yields;

    Abstract : Through deforestation and conversion of natural ecosystems to croplands and pastures, have humans released vast amounts of carbon (C) dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Roughly one third of the cumulative anthropogenic emissions until today stem from these practices, the remainder being mostly due to fossil fuel combustion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Scanning Probe Microscopy: Design and Applications

    Author : Håkan Olin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A compact scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and a scanning ion-conductance microscope (SICM) has been constructed. The concentric microscope head was built around a commercial piezoelectric inchworm motor that was used for coarse positioning. The microscope has a high resonance frequency (9.6 kHz), low noise (0. 5. 5. Fundamentals of Wetting and Mechanical Durability of Superhydrophobic Coatings

    Author : Pontus Olin; Lars Wågberg; Fredrik Tiberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : In paper I the friction between three different superhydrophobic surfaces and water drops were investigated using high‑speed video. The surfaces were two based on a hydrophobic wax and the third was the leaf of a Lotus (Nelumbo Nucifera). The acceleration of water drops was measured as a function of drop size and surface inclination. READ MORE
