  1. 1. The enzymatic machinery of leukotriene biosynthesis : Studies on ontogenic expression, interactions and function

    Author : Tobias Strid; Sven Hammarström; Mats Söderström; Ralf Morgenstern; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Leukotrienes (LTs) are biologically active arachidonic acid (AA) derivatives generated by the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) pathway. They are produced by myeloid cells. 5-LO converts AA to LTA4 in cooperation with 5-LO activating protein (FLAP). LTA4 is converted to LTB4, by LTA4-hydrolase (LTA4H) or to LTC4 by LTC4-synthase (LTC4S). READ MORE

  2. 2. Expression and regulation of water channels and ion transporters : ontogenic aspects

    Author : Masato Yasui; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : water balance; developmental gene expression regulation; gene transcription; fetal lung fluid; urinary concentrating capacity; hormonal regulation;

    Abstract : The content and distribution of body water changes dramatically during the perinatal period and in infancy. Transport of water across the cell membrane occurs via diffusion and via specific water channels. Transport via water channels is fast and may be hormonally regulated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular and Functional Dynamics of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Fate During Ontogeny

    Author : Maria Jassinskaja; Proteomisk hematologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hematopoies; developmental hematopoiesis; Proteomics; Leukemia; Mass Spectrometry;

    Abstract : Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) in the fetus and the adult possess distinct molecular signatures that regulate cell fate and change their susceptibility to initiation and progression of hematological malignancies, such as leukemia. It is well established that fetal and adult hematopoiesis are functionally distinct processes; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms that govern ontogenic differences in normal and malignant hematopoiesis have thus far been poorly explored on the proteomic level. 4. 4. Studies on expression and regulation of phospholipase A2 and cyclooxygenase 2 in gastrointestinal tissues with special reference to colorectal cancer

    Author : Jan Dimberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The phospholipases A2 (PLA2s) are phospholipid hydrolyzing enzymes that in mammalian cells exist in several different isoform including cytosolic PLA2 (cPLA2), group I PLA2 (PLA2-I) and group II PLA2 (PLA2-ll). PLA2 is involved in production of inflammatory mediators, membrane remodelling, digestive functions and stimulation of prolifemtion. READ MORE

  5. 5. Developmental and methodological aspects of intestinal and pancreatic function in pigs and rats

    Author : Klas Rådberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; macromolecule; endocytosis; FITC-dextran; secretion; mucosa; CCK; pancreas; disaccharidase; intestinal permeability; lectin; morphometry; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to effectively absorb nutrients and to act as a safety barrier against hazardous substances in the environment. After birth these functions develops gradually. READ MORE
