  1. 6. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Author : Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Abstract : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 2. 7. Sustainable Packaging of Organic Food: Myth or Reality?

    Author : Helena Lindh; Förpackningslogistik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Packaging; Features; Functions; Food; Organic; Life cycle; Eco; Sustainable Packaging; Development; Design;

    Abstract : Previous research has argued that packaging has a great potential to contribute to sustainable development, but how to put this potential into practice is not yet fully explored. The theoretical foundation of the research presented is at the intersection of packaging logistics and sustainable development. READ MORE

  3. 8. Mechanisms controlling striatal projection neurone generation, from patterning to early differentiation

    Author : Håkan Toresson; Klinisk minnesforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pbx; meis; sonic hedgehog; small eye; pax6; gsh2; gsh1; cerebral cortex; striatum; telencephalon; mutant; development; mouse; embryo; retinoic acid; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Abstract : The striatum is part of the telencephalon, the most anterior part of the vertebrate brain. From when it first can be identified, telencephalic morphology is highly complex and a wide range of mechanisms has been suggested to participate in its induction, patterning and neurogenesis. 4. 9. Antibody Evolution and Repertoire Development

    Author : Johan Lantto; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; virus neutralization; trinucleotide repeat; insertion; immunoglobulin variable genes; human cytomegalovirus; glycoprotein B; deletion; antibody; antibody repertoire;

    Abstract : Antibodies are key players of the immune system in higher vertebrates, which provide a defense against potentially lethal threats from the environment. Besides their importance in the immune defense, antibodies have a great potential as reagents in biological chemistry and diagnostics, and as therapeutic agents against both infectious diseases and cancer. 5. 10. Spatial Vision in Birds: Anatomical investigation of spatial resolving power

    Author : Mindaugas Mitkus; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Raptors; Seabirds; Parrots; Birds; Double cones; Development; Retinal ganglion cells; Visual spatial resolution; Visual ecology; Vision;

    Abstract : Avian eyes are big both in relative and absolute terms, thus the importance of vision to birds is obvious. Even though the general eye plan is rather conservative throughout the group, there is a great variation in visual capabilities. READ MORE
