  1. 16. OXYTOCIN AND VASOPRESSIN IN UTERINE ACTIVITY. Receptor-mediated agonism and antagonism with special regard to the aetiology and treatment of preterm labour and primary dysmenorrhoea

    Author : Thomas Bossmar; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; primary dysmenorrhoea.; preterm labour; vasopressin antagonist; receptors; oxytocin antagonist; vasopressin; Oxytocin; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : With a view to the aetiology and treatment of preterm labour and primary dysmenorrhoea we studied the influence of sexual steroids on the plasma levels of oxytocin and vasopressin, effect of these peptides on uterine contractility in vitro and in vivo, receptor concentrations and antagonists to oxytocin and vasopressin. In postmenopausal women oestrogen increased the concentrations in plasma of both peptides, whereas progesterone increased oxytocin but decreased vasopressin levels. READ MORE

  2. 17. Vascular mechanical properties and endothelial function with special reference to pregnancy and hormonal influences

    Author : Jana Brodszki; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet; Obstetrics; systemic lupus erythematosus; hormone therapy; preeclampsia; pregnancy; endothelial function; arterial stiffness; vessels; ultrasound; cardiovascular disease;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Early recognition of vascular changes, both structural and functional, may help to identify individuals at risk for CVD. READ MORE

  3. 18. Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a balloon catheter : experimental and clinical evaluation of a new form of treatment for menorrhagia

    Author : Britt Friberg; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrologi; Obstetrik; gynekologi; sexuality; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; Obstetrics; balloon catheter; thermal coagulation; Menorrhagia; endometrial destruction; saline infusion sonography; uterine thermal conductivity; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a silicone balloon catheter is a new form of treatment for menorrhagia aimed at reducing menstrual blood loss. The purpose of the present work was to study, experimentally, the thermal effects on and the thermal conductivity of uterine tissue, to obtain a basis for the estimation of optimal treatment conditions by means of numerical analyses using a computer simulation model, to elucidate possible problems which may arise during the procedure, to evaluate how the patients tolerated this treatment and to judge which patients were suitable for this form of treatment and, finally, to study the uterine cavity after treatment and the long-term results of treatment. 4. 19. The Influence of Intrauterine Environment on Cardiovascular Development During Fetal Life

    Author : Helena Gardiner; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduktion; sexualitet; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; Obstetrics; gynaecology; arterial distensibility; twin-twin transfusion; Growth-restriction; Fetal; Cardiovascular Development; andrologi;

    Abstract : Fetal growth restriction has been linked to later cardiovascular disease, possibly through reduced arterial distensibility in response to a suboptimal intrauterine environment. This thesis sought firstly to examine the relationship between fetal growth and haemodynamics and their effect on later cardiovascular function and secondly to examine the effects of differential volume loading on arterial distensibility in genetically identical monochorionic twins with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and to explore the effect that early treatment has on vascular development. 5. 20. Acidaemia at Birth: Risk factors, diagnosis and prognosis, with special reference to maternal fever in labour

    Author : Andreas Herbst; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; outcome; risk factors; perinatal asphyxia; acidosis; Acidaemia; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : Acidaemia at birth is a result of an impaired intrauterine gas exchange. Between 1988 and 1996, acid-base balance in cord artery blood pH was assessed in 23 016 of 27 064 newborns (85%). Obstetric risk factors for acidaemia (cord artery pH < 7.05) were identified in a case-control study. READ MORE
