  1. 1. Towards Technology Assessment of Ocean Energy in a Developing Country Context

    Author : Linus Hammar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electricity; Indian Ocean; technology assessment; ocean energy; Africa; rural electrification; ocean thermal energy conversion; wave power; tidal power;

    Abstract : New technologies for the extraction of valuable ocean resources are emerging: renewable ocean energy. Ocean energy technologies have so far primarily been developed in industrialized countries but will be deployed in both industrialized and developing countries. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cooling Strategies for Wave Power Conversion Systems

    Author : Antoine Baudoin; Cecilia Boström; Anne Blavette; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wave power; power conversion system; thermal management; power elctronics; passive cooling; natural convection.;

    Abstract : The Division for Electricity of Uppsala University is developing a wave power concept. The energy of the ocean waves is harvested with wave energy converters, consisting of one buoy and one linear generator. The units are connected in a submerged substation. The mechanical design is kept as simple as possible to ensure reliability. READ MORE

  3. 3. Power from the Brave New Ocean - Marine Renewable Energy and Ecological Risks

    Author : Linus Hammar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Stereo-video; OTEC; Environmental impact; Ocean thermal energy conversion; Fish; Ecological risk assessment; Wave power; Tidal power; Offshore wind power; Ocean energy;

    Abstract : This thesis address ecological risks associated with the possible growth of marine renewable energy. Tidal power, wave power, ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) and currently expanding offshore wind power are likely to become common components of future seascapes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Integrating Biomass in Existing Natural Gas-Fired Power Plants

    Author : Erik Pihl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forest Residue; Modeling; Hybrid Combined Cycles; Biomass; Gasification; Efficiency;

    Abstract : Using biomass for utility heat and electricity generation can supplement use of fossil fuels, whose emissions of carbon dioxide likely risk causing serious climate change and ocean acidification. Biomass as energy source is a limited resource and when used as fuel in thermal power plants this currently results in higher production costs than using fossil fuels such as natural gas and coal.
