  1. 11. Photoreceptors in experimental retinal cell transplants

    Author : Bengt Juliusson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; immunohistochemistry; mice; rabbits; rats; interphotoreceptor matrix; retinal pigment epithelium; photoreceptors; Retina; transplantation; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the fate of photoreceptor cells when using different strategies for retinal cell transplantation. Comparing transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina with cell suspensions of the same tissue we found that transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina result in mature transplants with a higher degree of cellular organization than transplantation of cell suspensions of embryonic retina. 2. 12. Central retinal vein occlusion: Cetrain risk factors, electroretinography and an experimental treatment model

    Author : Jörgen Larsson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; flicker; ERG; electroretinography; fluorescein angiography; rubeosis; CRVO; central retianl vein occlusion; ultrasound; streptokinase; experimental; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The presence of activated protein C resistance, plasma hyperhomocysteinemia and the MTHFR C677T mutation in patients with central retinal vein occlusion were investigated and compared to a control group. Activated protein C resistance was overrepresented in the group of patients less than 50 years of age whereas this was not the case in patients more than 50 years of age. READ MORE

  3. 13. Retinal Vein Occlusion A clinical study of electrophysiology, certain prognostic factors and treatment

    Author : Charlotte Lindberg; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi; multifocal electroretinography vitrectomy; electroretinography; factor V Leiden; retinal vein occlusion; prognostic factors;

    Abstract : The influence of the factor V Leiden mutation on the development of neovascular complications in central retinal vein occlusion was studied. The presence of the mutation was found to enhance the risk of developing neovascular complications almost threefold compared to in patients without the mutation. READ MORE

  4. 14. Diabetic retinopathy in type 1 diabetes mellitus. A study on medical risk indicators and treatment outcome

    Author : Monica Lövestam Adrian; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; treatment outcome; risk-indicators; Type 1 diabetes; sight-threatening retinopathy; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication to diabetes mellitus and is still a major cause of impaired vision in the Western world. The aim of the present study was to identify medical risk factors influencing the development and progression of retinopathy in type 1 diabetic patients, and to investigate the effects of laser treatment on visual acuity and glare. 5. 15. Tracing local hyaluronan after ocular anterior segment trauma

    Author : Anna Makar; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; COX-2 inhibitors; radiolabeling; trauma response; aqueous humor; hyaluronan; iris;

    Abstract : Hyaluronan has been found in the eye in varying amounts and at different sites. It is involved in physiological and pathological processes, though many aspects of its bio-logi-cal functions are still unclear. We have studied the role of iris tissue in hyal-uro-nan production in the anterior segment of the eye, and its changes after trauma. READ MORE
