  1. 6. The cultured neuroretina: development, survival and transplantation

    Author : Karl Engelsberg; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; transplantation; development; culture; retina;

    Abstract : In the cultured immature rat full-thickness neuroretina, massive apoptosis appears in the GCL within hours after explantation, but in the ONL cell death is low. Microglia cells become activated when the retina is kept in culture and are found in the GCL within 24 hours of culture. READ MORE

  2. 7. Experimental Neuroretinal Transplantation

    Author : Fredrik Ghosh; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transplant; Retinal degeneration; Retina; Rabbit; Neural development; Immunohistochemistry; MHC; Ultrastructure; Vitrectomy; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : Embryonic full-thickness rabbit neuroretinal sheets were transplanted to the subretinal space of adult hosts. This was accomplished by using a new transplantation technique involving vitrectomy and retinotomy. The grafts were followed from 10 to 306 days after surgery, and were then examined by different histological techniques. READ MORE

  3. 8. Experimental vitreoretinal surgery in the rabbit eye - electrophysiology and morphology

    Author : Karin Gjörloff; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; retinectomy; GFAP; PKC; rabbit; vitrectomy; focal laser photocoagulation; full-field electroretinography; multifocal electroretinography;

    Abstract : The field of vitreoretinal surgery has expanded greatly over the last decades. A continuous refinement of surgical methods and instruments has increased the number of treatable retinal disorders. Vitrectomy, retinectomy and laser treatment are all part of the modern surgical arsenal. READ MORE

  4. 9. Evaluation of the visual pathway with ERG, mfERG and mfVEP in inherited eye disorders

    Author : Lotta Gränse; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; multifocal ERG; Full-field ERG; multifocal VEP; Bothnia Dystrophy; Retinitis pigmentosa; Dominant optic atrophy; Leber`s hereditary optic neuropathy; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology;

    Abstract : This thesis will describe the clinical phenotypes, with emphasis on electrophysiology, in patients with different hereditary eye diseases and to further evaluate and modify the mfVEP technique for clinical use. Bothnia Dystrophy is a tapetoretinal disorder with a mutation in the RLBP1 gene. READ MORE

  5. 10. Intracellular mechanisms in rd1 mouse retinal degeneration

    Author : Leif Johnson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; Neuroprotection; Photoreceptor; Retinitis Pigmentosa; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited disorder and the leading cause of visual impairment in the working age population. It is caused by a number of different genetic mutations, all of which cause the rod photoreceptors to degenerate. As the rods become few in numbers, the cones will also begin to die, resulting in total blindness. READ MORE
