  1. 1. Atrial fibrillation and cause of death, sex differences in mortality, and anticoagulation treatment in low-risk patients

    Author : Tommy Andersson; Ole Frøbert; Dritan Poçi; Egon Toft; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; Cerebral infarction; Anticoagulation; Cause of death; Mortality risk; Sex differences; CHA2DS2-VASc score;

    Abstract : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia but information on cause of death in patients with AF is sparse, and whether individuals at low risk of cerebral infarction (CVL) should receive antico-agulant medication is controversial. Studies of sex differences with respect to mortality risk have shown conflicting results. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coronary artery disease and prognosis in relation to cardiovascular risk factors, interventional techniques and systemic atherosclerosis

    Author : Fredrik Calais; Ole Fröbert; Jerzy Leppert; Bo Lagerqvist; Stefan K James; Douwe E. Atsma; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atherosclerosis; Myocardial infarction; Coronary artery disease; Extra-cardiac artery disease; Coronary stent; Thrombus aspiration; physical inactivity; Prognosis;

    Abstract : Aim: To evaluate the prognosis associated with location and severity of coronary and systemic atherosclerosis in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) in relation to risk factors and interventional techniques.Methods: The thesis comprised six longitudinal studies based on three patient cohorts: The Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry, the Västmanland Myocardial Infarction Survey, and the Thrombus Aspiration in ST-Elevation myocardial infarction in Scandinavia study, to evaluate clinical outcome relative to coronary lesion location and severity, extracoronary artery disease (ECAD), intervention techniques, and leisuretime physical inactivity (LTPI). 3. 3. Novel and Traditional Risk Factors for Coronary Artery Disease : Role of Coronary Artery Calcium, Lipidomics, Psychosocial Factors and Diet

    Author : Demir Djekic; Ole Fröbert; Annika Rosengren; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Anna M. Nordenskjöld; Magnus Bäck; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Novel risk factors; coronary artery calcium; lipidomics; lipidome; psychosocial factors; vegetarian diet; gut microbiota; metabolome;

    Abstract : Background: The aim of the research reported in this thesis was to determine the association of novel and traditional risk factors with coronary artery calcium (CAC), a marker of subclinical coronary artery disease (CAD) in healthy individuals. In addition, we investigated the effects of a vegetarian, compared to a meat diet, on novel and traditional risk factors in patients with diagnosed CAD. READ MORE

  4. 4. Unrecognized myocardial infarction and cardiac biochemical markers in patients with stable coronary artery disease

    Author : Anna Nordenskjöld; Bertil Lindahl; Ole Fröbert; Kai Eggers; Torbjørn Omland; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Unrecognized myocardial infarction; Coronary artery disease; Prevalence; Prognosis; Troponin; NT-proBNP; Galectin-3; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Aim: The overarching aim of the thesis was to explore the occurrence and clinical importance of two manifestations of myocardial injury; unrecognized myocardial injury (UMI) and altered levels of cardiac biochemical markers in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD).Methods: A prospective multicenter cohort study investigated the prevalence, localization, size, and prognostic implication of UMI in 235 patients with stable CAD. 5. 5. Echocardiographic measurements at Takotsubo cardiomyopathy : transient left ventricular dysfunction

    Author : Micael Waldenborg; Kent Emilsson; Ole Fröbert; Per Lindqvist; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Echocardiography; takotsubo; annulus motion; cardiac autonomic function; broken heart; diastolic; ventricular mass; concentric wall motion; Medicine; Medicin; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is a disease characterized by transient left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and typical wall motion abnormalities in apical parts, without obvious signs of coronary influence. Due to its elusive natural cause and the lack of clarified pathology, further studies are needed. READ MORE
