  1. 1. Insulin Signalling and Regulation of Protein Kinase B in Adipocytes

    Author : Olga Göransson; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; PDK1; PKB; diabetes; insulin; adipocyte;

    Abstract : Insulin resistance is a hallmark of type 2 diabetes, an increasingly common disorder. The cause of insulin resistance is supposedly failures in the processes used by insulin to signal to the interior of its target cells. These failing steps are still unknown, most probably because of incomplete knowledge of how the insulin signals are transmitted. READ MORE

  2. 2. Epac2 signaling at the β-cell plasma membrane

    Author : Ida Alenkvist; Anders Tengholm; Olga Göransson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; β-cell; insulin secretion; cAMP; Ca2 ; Epac; Rap; exocytosis; sulfonylurea; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Secretion of appropriate amounts of insulin from pancreatic β-cells is crucial for glucose homeostasis. The β-cells release insulin in response to glucose and other nutrients, hormones and neurotransmitters, which trigger intracellular signaling cascades, that result in exocytotic fusion of insulin-containing vesicles with the plasma membrane. 3. 3. Unraveling Mechanisms of Insulin Resistance in Type 2 Diabetes in Human Adipocytes : Role of extracellular signal regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) and forkhead box protein 01 (FOX01)

    Author : Meenu Rohini Rajan; Peter Strålfors; Mats Söderström; Olga Göransson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Type 2 Diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia primarily caused due to insulin resistance in insulin responsive tissues and insufficient production of insulin by the β-cells. Insulin resistance appears to develop first in the expanding adipose tissue during caloric surplus and affects other tissues like liver and muscle by ectopic fat accumulation. READ MORE
