  1. 1. Oligomerization of human and bacterial frataxin : Structural and functional studies

    Author : Mostafa Abdalkhalik; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : Frataxin; Friedreich’s ataxia; iron; reactive oxiden species; protein oligomerization; SAXS; EM; cross-linking; XAFS; nano- DSF;

    Abstract : Friedreich’s ataxia (FRDA) is an autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disease caused by defeciency in frataxin, a highly conserved protein central to iron homeostasis in mirochondria. The function of frataxin is related to its capability to bind, store and deliver iron to different biochemical process such as iron-sulfur cluster assembly and heme biosynthesis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Plant UDP-glucose Pyrophosphorylase : Function and Regulation

    Author : Meng Meng; Leszek Kleczkowski; Javier Pozueta-Romero; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase; carbohydrate metabolism; in vivo regulation; T-DNA knockout; heterologous expression; isozyme; mutagenesis; kinetic property; oligomerization; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (UGPase) is an important enzyme of carbohydrate metabolism in all living organisms. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the function and regulation of plant UGP genes as well as the UGPase proteins. READ MORE

    Abstract : UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases provide the primary mechanism for de novo synthesis of UDP-sugars, which can then be used for myriads of glycosyltranferase reactions, producing cell wall carbohydrates, sucrose, glycoproteins and glycolipids, as well as many other glycosylated compounds. The pyrophosphorylases can be divided into three families: UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase), UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase (USPase) and UDP-N-acety lglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (UAGPase), which can be discriminated both by differences in accepted substrate range and amino acid sequences.
