21. The Epigenome of Multiple Myeloma : From genome-wide analysis to pharmacological manipulation
Abstract : Nowadays epigenetic dysregulation is known to play a crucial role in virtually all cancers. In multiple myeloma (MM), an extensively heterogeneous malignancy, the key common feature among patients is the gene silencing imposed by the PRC2 complex through the addition of H3K27me3. READ MORE

22. Expression and novel function of CD43 in colon cancer cells
Abstract : CD43 is a transmembrane protein containing an extracellular domain that is extensively O-glycosylated, and a relatively large intracellular domain with a conserved sequence between human, rat and mouse. It is frequently expressed in haematopoietic cell lines where it functions as a regulator of cell adhesiveness, a signal transducer and a cytoskeleton-interacting protein. READ MORE

23. Tonsillar cancer : incidence, prevalence of HPV and survival
Abstract : Since human papilloma virus (HPV) in the mid 1980ies was first observed in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, its role and impact, especially on oral and oropharyngeal cancer, have attracted extensive interest. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if the clinical impression of increased incidence of tonsillar cancer was true, and if HPV could be linked to this increase. READ MORE

24. Downstream effects of master regulators in two brain diseases
Abstract : In paper one, we investigated how the pharmacological activation and inhibition of the glucocorticoid system affects lifespan and symptoms in a mouse model for RTT. We performed a long-term drug treatment study with the GR activator corticosterone and the GR inhibitor RU486 under which we measured the lifespan and onset of RTT-like symptoms of male Mecp2-null and female Mecp2 heterozygous mice in comparison to untreated mutant and to treated and untreated wild-type animals. 25. Genetic characterization of adrenocortical tumors
Abstract : Adrenocortical cancer is a rare tumor form. However, adrenal tumors are today often found incidentally when using imaging techniques on the upper abdomen and should then be investigated. With the advance in molecular understanding of cancer new approaches to manage the disease may become available. READ MORE
