    Abstract : Shortages of fossil fuel and other political movements contributed to the nuclear energy “renaissance”.Nuclear energy, however, is not free of challenges, one of them being nuclear waste management. READ MORE

  3. 23. Kinetic Measurements Using Nanoplasmonic Sensing

    Author : Markus Schwind; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : In this thesis the nanoplasmonic sensing technique was used to study kinetics of (i) the oxidation of Al nanoparticles in air and water and (ii) the solid-liquid phase transition in Sn nanoparticles. The nanoplasmonic sensing technique detects changes of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in metal nanoparticles. READ MORE

  4. 24. Tailoring of Transition Metal Silicides as Protective Thin Films on Austenitic Stainless Steel

    Author : Eric Tam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : The objective of this study is to make use of transition metal silicides in a novel way as protective thin films on engineering metals. It can then be possible to take advantage of the potentially good corrosion resistance of metal silicides while compensating for their brittle nature by the ductile bulk material. READ MORE

  5. 25. Development of Aerobic Oxidative N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysis via Multistep Electron Transfer and its Application

    Author : Anton Axelsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dihydropyranone; Michael addition; kinetics.; aerobic oxidation; acylation; N-heterocyclic carbene; green chemistry; Organocatalysis; electron transfer mediator; asymmetric synthesis;

    Abstract : Oxidation reactions are ubiquitous in synthetic chemistry, but generally suffer from formation of large amounts of potentially toxic byproducts. Aerial oxygen represents an ideal oxidant since it is inexpensive, non-toxic and only forms water as a byproduct. READ MORE
