  1. 6. Atrial fibrillation in cardiac surgery

    Author : Anders Ahlsson; Anders Englund; Johan Brandt; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; Inflammation; CABG surgery; Survival analysis; Follow-up studies; Ablation; Microwave; Transmurality; Atrial function; Tissue velocity echocardiography; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi; Kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi; Surgery esp. Thoracic and Cardivascular Surgery;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia seen in clinical practice. In cardiac surgery, one-third of the patients experience episodes of AF during the first postoperative days (postoperative AF), and patients with preoperative AF (concomitant AF) can be offered ablation procedures in conjunction with surgery, in order to restore ordinary sinus rhythm (SR). 2. 7. Risk stratification in cardiac surgery: Algorithms and applications

    Author : Johan Nilsson; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Cardiac surgery; Statistics; Artificial neural networks; Resource utilization; Mortality; Risk factors; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : The aims of this research was to compare different risk score algorithms with regard to their validity to predict 30-day and one-year mortality after open-heart surgery, to evaluate if the preoperative risk stratification model EuroSCORE predicts the different components of resource utilization in cardiac surgery, and to systematically evaluate the accuracy and performance of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to select and rank the most important risk factors for operative mortality in open-heart surgery. Preoperative evaluation of the surgical risk is an important component in cardiac surgery. READ MORE

  3. 8. A Laparoscopic Approach in Gastro-Oesophageal Surgery : Experimental and Epidemiological Studies

    Author : Rune Sandbu; Bo Anderberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Gastro-oesophageal surgery; fundoplication; laparoscopy; long-term results; pneumothorax; intra-cranial pressure; positive end-expiratory pressure; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : The extension of laparoscopic procedures into the chest may induce specific pathophysiologic effects.In pigs, we have demonstrated how devastating a combined thoraco-laparoscopic approach can be for gas exchange. Furthermore, the transmission of elevated pressure intra-cranially is a potential danger. READ MORE
