  1. 11. Maternal Separation in Rats : An Experimental Model for Long-Term Effects of Early Life Experiences on Neurochemistry, Voluntary Ethanol Intake and Exploration and Risk Assessment Behavior

    Author : Erika Roman; Ingrid Nylander; J. Dee Higley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Handling; Maternal Deprivation; Environment; Opioids; Dopamine; Alcohol; Stress; Concentric Square Field; Open Field; Elevated Plus-maze; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : The period of early life is important for the development of individual brain function and behavior. Human studies have shown altered vulnerability to develop psychopathology and/or excessive drug intake, possibly leading to dependence, as a consequence of early life experiences. READ MORE

  2. 12. Practical and clinical use of opioids

    Author : Salumeh Bastami; Srinivas Uppugunduri; Johan Ahlner; Peter Höglund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pain is a common symptom of a number of conditions including cancer and one of the most frequent reasons for seeking healthcare. Acute and chronic pain result in considerable discomfort with a detrimental impact on the quality of life. Opioids are the mainstay of pain management for many patients with severe pain. READ MORE

  3. 13. Endogenous Opioids and Voluntary Ethanol Drinking : Consequences of Postnatal Environmental Influences in Rats

    Author : Lisa Gustafsson; Ingrid Nylander; Erika Roman; Ryszard Przewlocki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Maternal separation; Maternal deprivation; Handling; Isolation; Alcohol; Two-bottle model; Four-bottle model; MEAP; Dynorphin B; Nociceptin orphanin FQ; Radioimmunoassay; Farmaceutisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : Genetic and environmental factors interact to determine the individual vulnerability to develop ethanol dependence. The neurobiological mechanisms underlying these processes are not fully understood. Endogenous opioid peptides have been suggested to contribute. READ MORE

  4. 14. Pharmacoepidemiology of Antibiotics, Weak Opioids and Statins with Special Reference to Socioeconomic Aspects - an Ecological Approach

    Author : Karin Henricson; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Farmakologi; toxicology; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; statins; weak opioids; antibiotics; effectiveness; socioeconomic factors; Ecologic studies; drug utilisation; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Social medicine; Socialmedicin; samhällsmedicin;

    Abstract : The influence of socioeconomic factors on drug utilisation has been studied by pharmacoepidemiological analyses involving 1) drugs that are used to cure disease, such as antibiotics, 2) drugs that are used to alleviate symptoms, such as weak opioids, and 3) drugs that are used to prevent disease, such as statins. In a large Swedish city (Malmö), the utilisation of four major drug groups (ATC-groups A = alimentation, C = circulation, N = nervous system, and R = respiration) correlated positively with an unfavourable socioeconomic situation, most pronouncedly with group N and least so with group R. 5. 15. Opioids in the management of pain during delivery

    Author : Christina Olofsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Labour pain; systemic opioids; analgesia; epidural; subarachnoid; sufentanll; fentanyl; postpartal urinary retention; caesarean section; cerebrospinal fluid; endogenous pain controlling mechanisms;

    Abstract : Labour and delivery involve severe pain for most women. The goal for pain treatment in obstetrics is to provide effective and safe analgesia during all phases of delivery. The ideal method for pain relief during delivery is not yet available. READ MORE
