6. Optical Topographical Characterisation for Flexographic Printability
Abstract : The flexographic printability is largely dependent on the topographical characteristics of the substrate. OptiTopo is a recently developed optical imaging technique, which provides precise and fast topographic scans of both printed and unprinted paper surfaces. READ MORE

7. Electronic materials : growth and characterisation
Abstract : In this thesis the InSb(111), InAs(111) and GaSb(001) surfaces have been studied by means of time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy based upon the femtosecond laser system. The pump-and-probe technique allows to analyse both electron states in the valence band and normally unpopulated electron states above the valence band, which can be occupied by transiently excited carriers at the optically pumped surface. 8. Characterisation of a structural battery composite and its constituents
Abstract : The structural battery composite is a recently successfully developed multifunctional lithium-ion battery. It is safer and capable to carry mechanical load compared to commercially available liquid electrolyte batteries. READ MORE

9. Optical modelling of conjugated polymers : from materials to devices
Abstract : Measurements and modelling of theoretical properties of polymer-based photovoltaic devices, PPVDs, are the subjects of this thesis. Modelling refers both to modelling of materials, based on extraction of the dielectric function, and to modelling of devices by computer simulation of the optical electrical field inside PPVDs. 10. Characterisation of Optical Fibers Using Dual-Comb Swept-Wavelength Interferometry
Abstract : The growth in data traffic coupled with trends in internet use will result in a requirement for interfaces of the network to reach Tb/s data rate in the future. Considering this, novel transmission techniques that can increase the date rate with orders of magnitude must be considered. One such example is space-division multiplexing (SDM) fibers. READ MORE
