  1. 1. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Author : Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 2. Studies of Rejection in Experimental Xenotransplantation

    Author : Tomas Lorant; Annika Tibell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Antibodies; cell culturing; cytokines; hyaluronan; immunosuppression; mouse; rat; rejection; T lymphocytes; xenotransplantation.; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : One main hurdle to xenotransplantation, i.e. transplantation between different species, is the immunological barrier that the organ meets in the recipient. The aim of this thesis was to characterise xenogeneic rejection mechanisms by using the concordant mouse-to-rat heart transplantation model. READ MORE

  3. 3. The percieved threat of the risk of graft rejection among organ transplant recipients

    Author : Madeleine Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Organ transplantation; graft rejection; adolescents; perceptions; psychometric evaluation; health related quality of life; coping;

    Abstract : Transplantation is an established and successful treatment for critically ill patients. For many of the organ transplant recipients (OTR) it is the only option for survival. When OTRs are asked about what they fear the most, the most common answer is graft rejection. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of Acute Rejection Using Contrast Agents and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Eva Penno; Håkan Ahlström; Cecilia Johnsson; Lars Johansson; Peter Leander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Radiology; Magnetic resonance imaging; contrast agents; organ transplantation; acute rejection; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Solid organ transplantation is today an established form of treatment for end-stage organ disease. Monitoring of graft function and pharmacological therapy constitutes a maze of clinical observations and histological evaluations of biopsy specimens; with the biopsy results playing a decisive role. 5. 5. The clinical importance of anti-endothelial cell antibodies in chronic kidney dysfunction and organ transplantation

    Author : Nidia Maritza Hernandez; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endothelial Cells; Anti-endothelial cell antibodies; Organ Rejection; Tissue Engineering;

    Abstract : The endothelium is the thin layer of cells that lines the interior surface of blood vessels and is the first site of contact between immune cells and tissues. Therefore, alterations at the level of the endothelium are crucial to understand the nature of vascular diseases and organ damage. READ MORE
